Keira's Story

Keira came to us as a terrified stray many months ago. She spent those months acting as if she'd never been socialized with humans, bolting out her kennel door if we even looked her way. She was even scared at the sight of a leash. Honestly, we had no idea what to do. Then, one day, something changed! She allowed staff to slip lead her and to our surprise she didn't flip out and seemed as though she knew how to walk leashed. Not only did she suddenly feel comfortable being leashed, she decided to show us all of the commands she knows, they include sit, stay, paw, both paws and down. We were saddened to think she spent so much time in fear of us when she could've been out and about having fun!

Keira is very sweet but she displays a lot of anxious behavior such as pacing and crying/whining when people walk away. She takes some time to adjust to new indoor spaces and copes by pacing the room and sniffing. She has never acted out in aggression. We believe Keira needs both an experienced home with someone who is home a lot as well as medication to help with anxiety. There is nothing she looks forward to more than her walks, so her new owner should be prepared to exercise her body and mind.

We know this is a big ask but she's so worth it!

Keira is dog friendly. Cats are unknown.
