Keeway's Story
Why Choose Me?
Doggy-Day-Out update: This gorgeous boy first came to the shelter so nervous. He kept his distance in his kennel and would only take the treats left behind for him. Not anymore! He is 100% ready for love and companionship. As soon as I take him out he is ready to sit and hold hands while he gazes lovingly into your eyes.
We went to Sandy Creek Nature Center yesterday and I could tell he was experiencing lots of firsts and was trying to take it all in. His nerves faded as he was able to categorize certain things as "normal" with the encouragement of his human, though he stayed curious and alert. I think exposure to more experiences will be so great for him.
Towards the end of our visit, he found a cool patch of grass near the parking lot and looked up at me like "just a few minutes here, pleeeeease?" and proceeded to have the time of his life rolling around and smiling so big. I could tell he had determined Sandy Creek to be a safe place at that point. He did NOT want to get back in the car afterwards. He had a great outing.
After bringing him back, I learned that he is actually used as one of the dog testers for other dogs at the shelter, due to being so calm and non-reactive when other dogs may be growling or unfriendly. As someone who has previously adopted a dog used for dog testing...ADOPT THE DOG TESTER! That's a big green flag!! These special dogs make wonderful family members and friends.

Keeway is a handsome brindle pup. He's a little sad in his kennel, but once I leashed him and walked with him to an interaction pen, his joy returned. He can jump a fence, so I kept Keeway leashed and with me while giving him lots of pets and praise. I eventually unleashed him, but he chose to stay beside me. He's still a pup at nine months, and he needed a friend in his new environment. It would be best that Keeway be an indoor dog who's supervised when he's outside. He's great on a leash and likes going for walks. He's a sweetie who wants to be with his humans and be loved.

You can read more about this dog and check out additional photos here: https://www.accgov.com/9482/Dogs

The adoption fees, shelter schedule, a description of the rescue and adoption process, and a list of included vetting can be found at https://athenspets.net/adoption-rescue-process.

This dog is available for adoption through Athens-Clarke County Animal Services, located at 125 Buddy Christian Way, Athens, GA.
