KEANU's Story

12/06/25 16:49 Meet Keanu, a 1 year old 46 pound male German Shepherd. He is available for rescue or adoption with a waiver, as Keanu has been diagnosed with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency and needs twice daily pancreas supplementation. This handsome boy loves taking in all the good smells on his walks. Keanu warms up beautifully to new people and absolutely melts for gentle pets and affection. He’s happiest when he’s out exploring and would thrive in any home that enjoys plenty of adventures, whether it’s hiking trails, long walks, or backyard playtime. Keanu’s still working on his social skills with other dogs, so a little extra guidance and positive experiences will help him feel more comfortable. With his eager spirit and loving nature, Keanu is ready to bond deeply with a family who will give him the structure, activity, and love he deserves. 12/11/25 14:24 What did we do on today’s adventure: Today was my first Trails & Tails adventure
and I was SO excited! I hopped into the car like a pro, and I was ready to see what the
day had in store for me. When we got to our walking spot, I could barely contain my
enthusiasm. There's just so much to explore and discover! I spent a lot of time with
my nose to the ground, sniffing everything - the world is full of fascinating scents, and
I want to investigate them all. I'll admit, sometimes my excitement gets the best of
me, and I pull a bit on the leash because there's just SO much I want to check out, but
I'm still learning. I showed off my 'sit' command for treats, and let me tell you, I am
VERY motivated by treats - they're basically the best thing ever! We passed bikes,
cars, and people during our walk and I was totally cool with all of them - no big deal.
But other dogs? Now that's interesting! I really want to say hi to every dog I see
because I think they might want to be my friend.
What should potential adopters know about me: Keanu is a handsome, peppy
young German Shepherd with all the energy and enthusiasm you'd expect from a
young dog of his breed. He's very treat motivated and already knows sit, showing
he's eager to learn and responsive to positive reinforcement training. Keanu loves
exploring the world around him and investigating his environment. As a young,
energetic dog, he does sometimes pull on the leash in his, so he would benefit from
continued leash training and an active owner who can provide both structure and
plenty of physical and mental stimulation. He rides well in the car and is non-reactive
to bikes, cars, and people. He is very interested in other dogs and gets excited when
passing them. He attends playgroup at the shelter, though his youthful exuberance
means he can be a bit rough and rowdy with other dogs - he hasn't quite mastered the
art of gentle play yet. He is a sweet boy who enjoys petting during breaks and shows
his affectionate side when he gets one-on-one attention.
Three words to describe me: Energetic, Curious, Enthusiastic 10/30/25 14:58 Keanu is a 1-year-old German Shepherd with a curious nose and an even bigger heart. This handsome boy loves taking in all the good smells on his walks. He’s happiest when he’s out exploring and would thrive in an active home that enjoys plenty of adventures, whether it’s hiking trails, long walks, or backyard playtime.

Once he’s had his fill of fun, Keanu loves to relax and soak up attention. He warms up beautifully to new people and absolutely melts for gentle pets and affection. He’s a smart young dog who already knows how to sit and would love to keep learning with his future family.

Keanu’s still working on his social skills with other dogs, so a little extra guidance and positive experiences will help him feel more comfortable around canine friends. With his eager spirit and loving nature, Keanu is ready to bond deeply with a family who will give him the structure, activity, and love he deserves. If you’re looking for a loyal, adventurous, and affectionate companion, Keanu can’t wait to meet you — and maybe sniff out a new chapter together! 09/10/25 - Keanu is a young, sweet, friendly german shepherd who came into the shelter underweight, but was failing to gain weight with extra feeding. Shelter veterinary team ran extensive gastrointestinal testing and diagnosed Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, a disease that happens in German Shepherds where the pancreas does not make enough enzymes to allow for proper food digestion and vitamin absorption. Veterinary staff has started him on daily powdered enzyme supplementation at each meal, as well as other supportive care. Prognosis for Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) is great with enzyme supplementation, and we expect his stools to improve and his body condition to improve steadily. Dogs with EPI can live a full normal lifespan with lifelong enzyme supplementation in his food. Seeking rescue or committed adopter. Can send pet with several bottles of pancrepowder supplement to start.
