ABOUT KANO<br/>Kano is a handsome 2-year-old Irish Wolfhound mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Louisiana when they no longer had space for him. While his past is a mystery, Kano is clearly ready to make the most of his future. He loves toys, zooming around our fenced fields, and soaking up attention from his people. Kano has made some doggy friends and can be selective, he seems to have a soft spot for the ladies! A true gentleman, he's eager to please, food-motivated, and enjoys learning new commands, making him a joy to work with. He walks nicely in a harness, loves short training sessionss, and balances his playful energy with plenty of snuggles. The main reason he is still with us is due to his big boy size and goofy, playful energy. To help meet his needs, Kano has thrived in our Doggy Day Out program and would do best with an active family ready to keep him engaged and loved. Here's what a few of our volunteers had to say about him: <br/><br/>"Kano is one of the best behaved dogs in the car I have ever taken out and was very calm and quiet. We went for a walk at Bellevue, Kano LOVES the squirrels. After we walked for a bit though, he calmed down and was much less excitable when he did see them. And of course he loved his pup cup! He didn't jump on us at all today and didn't bark at all either. He was a sweet boy and I hope he finds his family soon!" - Cilenna<br/><br/>"Today I had Kano for my DDO! He was great in the car, sitting the whole time like a little gentleman. I intended on taking him on a run, but as soon as we got out of the car he saw a squirrel and it was game over lol. He also was so excited to greet every person we passed and when he's on a mission, you're simply along for the ride with him. He calmed down about halfway through our walk and kept taking rest breaks on benches, it was so cute. He also knows sit very well, and he wouldn't get out of my car until I said ok even though the door was wide open which was really impressive. I tried to foster his love of jumping on things by taking him to the playground where he had a great time exploring." - Julie<br/><br/>If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
