Kahlua's Story

A059984 Kahlua; intact female Pit Bull / Border Collie mix; 1 year; 65.4 lbs

Contact: Calaveras County Animal Services
📱 (209)754-6509
🌐 Website: https://animal.calaverasgov.us/
📧 Email: animal@calaverascounty.gov

Meet Kahlua, one of a half dozen young dogs who have landed at the shelter.

We've inevitably been calling the group the Brown Dog Crew, even though there is one black one. They are mostly grown but still quite young and inexperienced in many ways. We don't believe they've had much in the way of positive experiences or caring ownership. They are learning and making progress day by day and doing quite well. They had not had much socialization and zero leash training as far as we know, nor had they met and interacted with strangers. Thus, you can imagine that finding themselves in the unfamiliar and chaotic puppy pokey was quite frightening for them.

Staff and volunteers went to work with each dog, carefully helping them know they are safe and loved. With gentle encouragement, they are feeling more at ease, while each of their unique personalities are beginning to emerge. We are gently introducing them to new people and new dog friends. It's a process, but one in which we feel they are making very good progress.

With patience and love, they are picking up leash manners very quickly. They are all getting friendlier by the minute, Kahlua has become a super hugger, asking for affection and comfort from handlers, boding well for future doggo-human relations!

We can't call any of them housebroken yet though they're not super messy either.

Through no fault of their own, the Brown Dog Crew are in need of some caring folks to step forward and give them each a chance at being the happy, beloved, family dog they can and deserve to be.

The dogs will need to be spayed or neutered before going home with you.

We do not have info on their attitude toward cats 🐱 at this time.

A meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home.
