Josie's Story
Meet Josie. She was surrendered to our rescue from a backyard breeder. She was purchased by someone and then they returned her to them once they saw she had a prolapsed rectum. Of course the backyard breeder didn’t think she could make money off of Josie so she contacted me to take her. We immediately sent her to surgery the next day to repair the prolapsed rectum (7-8 weeks old). She was just 2 pounds the day she was surrendered. Josie has recovered from her surgery but we wanted to have her checked out with a specialist to get to the root cause of the prolapse. She was seen at Charlotte Animal Referral and Emergency (CARE). After several diagnostic tests, it was discovered that Josie has a stricture, or a kink, in a portion of her colon.
Josie’s fosters have done an amazing job helping her recover. She has doubled in weight from 2 pounds to 4 pounds and is thriving! She will most likely need a procedure (colonoscopy with balloon) in 8-9 months to possibly stretch the “kinked” part of her colon but right now she is just too tiny. The plan from
CARE | Charlotte Animal Referral & Emergency is to let her grow and pray that the kinked portion of the colon grows with the rest of her and that she can pass poop regularly. She plays, runs, sleeps, eats, and poops and otherwise is a “normal” dog. However, she eats a specialized diet (smaller meals 4x a day) and has MiraLAX with her meals. This keeps things moving through her. We are going to put her back up for adoption but we want to be fully transparent that she will most likely have to have a procedure in 8-9 months. She is spunky and is full of life and personality. She does not know how small she is! If you’re interested in this precious girl please email Amy Smith for an application rather than completing one through PetFinder! She is available through Amy’s Angels Dog Rescue located in Kings Mountain, NC. You can view Josie along with all of their available dogs, on their Facebook page. Approved adopters only???
