Josie's Story

This is Josie. She's a 3-year-old purebred German Shepherd, registered with the AKC. She's very sweet and loving with people, loves to cuddle. She's a big girl at about 85 lb, she's up to date on vaccines, and spayed. She had to have her left eye surgically removed about a year ago due to some kind of trauma that happened before her current owner got her. She's started becoming unpredictable around other dogs, sometimes playing and then sometimes it turns to rough playing and then she latches on and won't let go. Also she's not great on a leash, pulls and lunges and has pulled her owner to the ground several times. Her owner has some physical challenges and walks with a cane, so with an able-bodied person that knows a bit about training, she could be fine. With people she's very sweet and affectionate, after she greets you with jumping and exuberance. I'm sure she could benefit from a couple hours a day of hard exercise, but unfortunately her owner lives in a small trailer with no yard. so she's currently taking her to off leash places but it's a huge risk if another dog should show up. Josie needs someone who knows something about training and is willing to see it through, as well as get her the exercise that a dog this age and breed requires. Or someone willing to hire a really good trainer and see it through. She's been trained with head harnesses, flat collars, choke chains, shock collars, and most recently pinch collars. According to the owner, nothing works for very long. She's very strong and determined and she really needs some positivity based, kind, consistent training to help her understand what's expected of her. Please see the pictures and contact Ria at 609-618-5770 if you think you have what it takes to be a hero for this beautiful girl. <br/> Suggested donation $250. Located in Cortez, CO.
