Jorgie's Story
Jorgie is an almost 5 year old German Shepherd/Husky cross who is looking for a very special home.

She had a tough start to life, born outdoors and without human contact as a young pup. Luckily, she was found and has spent the last several years living indoors with other dogs. Even though she has been safe and cared for, she never completely lost her shy, cautious nature.

When Jorgie first came to us, she kept her guard up. But with patience and kindness, our staff have seen pieces of her personality start to shine through. She's usually quiet, though sometimes when she's excited, she lets out little yips or even sings us a song. With the people she trusts most, Jorgie enjoys gentle back or bum scritches, even doing a little "happy leg dance" when it feels just right.

Jorgie loves being outside in our off-leash play run, where she can explore at her own pace, then head back inside to curl up on a cozy blanket. Because of this, a home with safe outdoor access will be essential for her comfort and happiness.

She has lived with other dogs before and has done well with several here at the shelter. We think she would thrive with a calm, gentle dog companion who can help her feel secure. She can get overwhelmed with pushy or overly energetic dogs, so a quiet friend would be best.

The Home Jorgie Needs

Jorgie is looking for a home that will let her be herself, without pressure to be the kind of dog she isn't. Because she startles easily and prefers peace and quiet, she will need a calm environment without young children. What she truly needs is someone who will give her patience, time, and the kindness she needs to feel safe.

Life with Jorgie will not be about constant cuddles or big displays of affection. Instead, it will be about the little things. It's watching her relax in a patch of sunshine after enjoying some time outdoors, or smiling when she lets out one of her funny little yips of excitement. It's seeing her tail give a wag when she decides she wants to sit beside you, or feeling her lean in ever so slightly for a scratch when she's ready. It also may even be when she decides to boop you with her nose when shes feeling courageous!

If you're someone who appreciates a more independent dog, who finds joy in earning trust slowly, and who values the quiet companionship of a shy but loving soul, Jorgie could be your perfect match. With the right person, her loyalty will run deep, even if it's shown from a little further away.
