Jojo's Story

Jojo / F / 5Y / Maltese mix / 9lbs / Fostered in Owen Sound

JoJo is a sweet, cuddly girl who's learning that the world can be a safe and wonderful place. While she finds comfort in her crate—her favourite safe haven—JoJo is beginning to discover the joys of playing, cuddling on the couch, and greeting her foster mom with adorable little scampers when she comes home.

This cautious girl is making beautiful progress but needs an experienced adopter who will gently push her to come out of her shell and not retreat to hiding spots. Her foster mom has been working with her to build confidence, and JoJo is responding well—she now chooses to rest on a bed beside her crate or snuggle on the couch instead of hiding under furniture. Watching her try to be brave is absolutely heartwarming.

JoJo is doing well with house training but requires regular potty breaks (she'll go out every couple of hours during the day and can hold it all night in her crate). She's a good walker on leash, though she's not a fan of noisy vehicles or snow—in cold weather, she does her business quickly and then sits shivering, waiting to be scooped up! She settles well in her crate when left alone for a few hours and can free roam for shorter periods with pee pads available.

Despite her shyness, JoJo shows wonderful potential. She's friendly with dogs of all sizes and does well with cats. She shows interest in playing with her foster dog and is becoming increasingly playful as she gains confidence. When meeting new people, she may shake and need time to settle, but she calms quickly, especially when held in loving arms.

JoJo's ideal home includes:
- A patient, experienced adopter who understands shy dogs and will encourage her continued growth
- A fairly quiet household with another confident, friendly dog as a role model (required)
- Older children who understand the need to move slowly and speak softly around her
- Commitment to keeping her on a urinary support diet to prevent reoccurrence of bladder stones (recently treated and nearly resolved)

JoJo has received a dental cleaning with extractions while in care and is ready for her fresh start. If you have the patience and love to help this gentle girl continue blossoming into the brave, affectionate companion she's meant to be, JoJo might be your perfect match.

Please complete an adoption application on our website.
