Johnny's Story

Who’s a Good Boy?

Johnny, an approximately 2-year-old shepherd mix, was one of 8 pups who were dumped at the shelter when they were very young. Mixed Mutts rescue took them all in and bottle fed them until they were old enough to eat solid food. Some of Johnny’s siblings have been adopted, but he is still searching for his own fur-ever home.

Johnny had been a bit awkward in a home setting because of his shelter and rescue upbringing, but he has made tremendous improvements while in his foster home. He was introduced to stairs and trail hiking and running for exercise and a cat for a sibling, and he has done an outstanding job adapting to all these new elements in his life. He has gone from shyly avoiding affection and human touch to seeking it out. He is crate-trained and will choose to hang out and sleep in it. He continues to work on patiently waiting for meals to be served and calming down before being invited indoors. Johnny is very food-motivated and will work enthusiastically for treats. He has made many canine friends in his foster’s neighborhood, playing and walking appropriately with them in a variety of settings.

Since Johnny is only 2 years old, he has plenty of years left to become a loyal companion. He would be great with an adopter who would continue with his socialization training and outdoor activities. Johnny would prefer his new home to have a yard and perhaps another dog (or tolerant cat) in addition to his human family. He has not yet had experience with children in the house, so an adult-only household would be the better environment for him.

If you have the time and love to put into this handsome boy, Johnny can’t wait to meet you!
