LOOKING FOR ADOPTER OR FOSTER TO ADOPT

Meet just turned 4 yr old Joey. Joey is a very special dog looking for the perfect adopter or foster to adopt. Joey was pulled by Brookline from a breeder back in November as he wasn't getting the breeder's female labs pregnant. Joey was shy when I met him, and sat in the back corner of the crate while I evaluated him. He allowed me to handle him, but he was scared. I brought him home and hoped that between the loving warm home we had and the resident labs, he'd come out of his shells pretty quickly as many of these breeder dogs do. But Joey did not and hated being on leash in the yard and proved to be a real flight risk. For his own safety we moved him to a nearby kennel/trainer, but really he's living in her home- and she just has lots of lab experience as she has three of her own and give countless lessons.

Joey has been there almost 2 months and while his progress is slow, he truly is making progress. When before wouldn't take a treat for her or anyone else and she had to toss it in his crate and walk away, he now will come to her for a treat:

He will also solicit pets occasionally and just yesterday, he licked her feet when she was taking a cat nap on the couch. Good boy Joey. These are all huge steps for Joey. He really wants to trust people and be loved. You can see it in his eyes.

But where Joey really comes to life is when he is with other dogs, particularly playful dogs that want to play with him and who will encourage him to play. The trainer has three resident labs, a Great Dane puppy and dogs coming and going for lessons, so Joey has been exposed to many dogs and does great. He likes to play chase with the best of them, and also to play tug, but if a dog is less than friendly or obnoxious, he just walks away. He's a peaceful guy. Although if everyone is in the yard and a car pulls in, he alert barks with the best of them. I'm happy to hear his voice!

Joey is at the point where he needs his own family. We know he's going to continue to make progress, but that progress should now be in his forever home. So Joey is looking for the perfect adoptive or foster to adopt home- one with experience, love and mostly lots of patience, and one that is going to see that he is worth everything that is put into him, and be rewarded by what they're doing. Two requirements are a secure physical fence and a resident dog (or more!!!).
