Joaquin's Story

Dog Name: Joaquin Phoenix
Age: 6 months
Gender: Male
Breed: Pit Bull / German Shepherd mix (pittie looks with a shorter coat); estimated adult weight 45–50 lbs

Good with dogs? Yes
Good with cats? Yes, with confident, dog-savvy cats
Good with kids? He has met an older child and did well; respectful kids of any age should be just fine

Rescue Story:
Joaquin and his brother Russell were rescued from a backyard situation in Kitsap County where they were in poor condition. Joaquin had sustained a facial injury from a littermate due to food scarcity, and unfortunately, no veterinary care was provided at the time. A Good Samaritan stepped in, got them safe and fed, and connected with NWWR. After being evaluated by our vet, Joaquin headed to his foster home to begin his new life.

Temperament/Personality:
Joaquin is a quirky, expressive pup with a big personality and plenty to say. His unique face—often mistaken for a cleft palate—is actually the result of his past injury. Thankfully, our vets have confirmed that it does not affect him internally and won't impact his ability to live a full, happy, and healthy life. He's very treat-motivated, eager to learn, and makes the cutest little “gremlin” sounds when he plays.

Leash Experience: In progress—he's learning that staying close to his human is a good thing
Potty Trained? In his crate

Ideal Home:
Joaquin is adaptable and could thrive in many types of homes, whether as an only dog or with canine siblings—he's been respectful and social with his foster buddies. He does have opinions and isn't shy about sharing them, so if you're looking for a dog with personality (and a little conversation), he's your guy.

Strengths:
Adorable, smart, food-motivated, and full of personality

Working On:
Leash skills—he's still a young puppy and very much a blank slate

Celebrity Match:
Joaquin Phoenix... just look at that face

Dating Profile:
“Fun, unique-looking guy seeking a forever home full of snacks, conversations, and adventure.
