Meet JJ - ADOPTED!!
Meet JJ! This unique boy with the big brown eyes, radar ears and bushy tail was rescued from a hoarding situation, living in a dilapidated, trash-filled outdoor pen. Worthy Dog has rescued three other dogs from the property who needed medical care and rehabilitation. JJ was heartworm positive on intake, under-socialized and underweight, and going without consistent food, water, or any exposure to the outside world. He was initially very skittish and needed time to decompress, but his local foster parents have done a great job working with him and exposing him to new things, and helping him learn to trust. He's now been treated for heartworm and is ready to start his new life.
JJ is living in the Park View area of DC with two other dogs in his foster home. He connects very quickly to the other dogs and finds comfort in pup companionship. We feel another dog in the home is a requirement for JJ to be at his best. He would also do better in a quieter area. He's still fearful of many sights and sounds in the city.
His foster mom, Cynthia, checked in with these updates:
Energy Level: JJ is a moderate energy dog. He is calm inside the home and content to snuggle with you on the couch, but does need and enjoy his daily walks and exercise. He gets excited when we get his leash for walks, and will now allow us to put his harness on without scampering away.
Leash Walking Skills: JJ gets excited for his walks, although he's still nervous around busy intersections. He's happiest when there aren't many vehicles on the road. He ignores other dogs on his walks and is not reactive, but still needs some practice on his leash skills.
Personality: He's such a sweetheart and loves attention! He's not overly needy, but will definitely paw at your hand when he feels he deserves some affection. JJ is a great companion and allows us to pick him up and cuddle him when his humans need attention too! He's the type of pup that will seek you out when need be, but also likes to be with his canine buddies.
House Manners (crate/potty training): He's crate trained, although he's still working on getting in willingly. Potty training has vastly improved--he gets the concept of going outside, but you have to remain consistent as he may have accidents if he's not on a strict schedule. He's great with our other dogs and loves to cuddle with them!
JJ is a very loving, affectionate pup who LOVES other dogs. He was a little timid with his foster parents at first, but once he's warms up, he's very connected to his people. He needs a patient owner to settle him in and will do best in a calm home environment. We really feel he needs another dog in the home to help him better acclimate. Coming from a hoarding situation, his entire community was other dogs, and he finds comfort in them. JJ is still spooked by traffic/noises, so he's not the best city/condo dog.
FOSTER UPDATE - 1/23/21 - "It took a few weeks but JJ has really settled in. He plays now, and has a really cute personality. He's not as jumpy or skittish to sudden noises. He still follows our pups around and is very connected to other dogs. He would love a playmate in his new home. He's a great dog and it's going to be hard to see him go."
