Jet aka Brown Collar's Story

Meet Jet, our lovely black-and-tan boy wearing the brown collar, who's sharing his foster home with his playful littermate, Koper, the sable light-blue collar pup. The resident, wonderfully nurturing Great Dane, two young kids, and a wise cat are lovingly watching over these little ones, offering gentle guidance as they explore their new world.

He's part of the litter of eight precious pups that arrived at the shelter with their loving mama, and thanks to the amazing shelter staff and their mom's care, they've thrived. Once their previous owner entrusted them to the shelter, it became our turn and joy to raise them until we find these affectionate, fun, cuddly, and brave puppies their own loving shepherd-experienced families. Their wonderful mama weaned them and has been adopted! We love keeping our young pups, like these 7-week-olds at arrival, in pairs for a few weeks—this helps them adjust more smoothly, learn how to play nicely, and practice gentle puppy manners with their siblings. Plus, the guidance from the adult dogs in their foster homes is truly priceless!

Jet is doing so well with potty training—he already prefers to go outside just like Koper! He snuggles in with Koper at night for deep slumbers. Both pups are toy lovers, playing with each other with gusto. They have terrific appetites for their kibble.

They're happy, healthy, brave, and smart —just waiting to bring joy to the perfect families! And we have turned on their adoption button to match them to their respective forever families. The black-and-tan pups of this litter are generally braver and the first to dive into new experiences.

Both received their next booster shots and were weighed at the vet during Xmas week, which may explain the spread in the littermates' weights. We update each pup's weight after their vet visits.

We're so grateful for everyone's incredible response to our call for fosters! And would be absolutely thrilled if you could say yes, so we can welcome more pups from shelters overflowing with sweet shepherds in need.

Have you visited our YouTube channel yet? We'd love your support—please subscribe, like, and comment on our videos to help our adoptable shepherds shine! ShepHeroes's Adoption Policy
Our dogs are available to meet approved adopters through appointments and at various posted events throughout Northern California. Since each GSD we rescue has been let down by their previous caregivers, we are committed to ensuring that their second chance is a forever one. Our adoption application allows us to find the best possible match for them and for you. The decision to adopt a pet is an important one that we take seriously. Please take the time to read the questions and carefully complete the application. Please include full explanations with as much information as possible - this will help us with the review of your application If renting, your landlord's consent is required to proceed with your application. Our landlord permission form is embedded in the application and is required before your application can be processed. We primarily assist at-risk dogs and serve adopters in Northern California. We are currently focused in the following counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Marin, Monterey, Napa, Placer, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma and Yolo, and on a limited basis the Ft. Bragg area of Mendocino County and Lake Tahoe region of Washoe County, NV. Our area of coverage shifts based on volunteer resources. As an all-volunteer rescue, we may not respond as quickly as we would like. We appreciate your patience while we work through the adoption process. Our goal is to respond to you within a week of your application. 1. Submit Application We seek adopters with previous GSD or large breed experience for the best fit and prefer to adopt within our local geographic region. 2. Interview After submission, you'll receive an email indicating the status of your application and information on assignment to an adoption counselor (AC). 3. Home Check After your interview, your AC will arrange for your home visit (HV). All household members & resident dogs should attend that meeting. 4. Meet the Pet After your HV and once approved, you'll be able to meet potential matches. All household members & resident dogs should attend the meetings. 5. Sign Adoption Contract Once you've found your perfect match, you review and sign the adoption contract. 6.
