Jericho's Story

Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Jericho. He is a 2 year old Cane Corso who entered our Rescue after being surrendered due to neglect. He has a short hair coat and is very tall, standing over 6 feet when on his hind legs.

Jericho arrived into our Rescue in an emaciated state. He had been crated most of his life and underfed. His teeth actually are smaller due to malnutrition. Our goal was to get him to a healthy state physically, emotionally and socially. We have accomplished all of the above,

He is a very loving boy that gives big kisses. Jericho enjoys routine and needs so, as he currently is a big puppy. It was obvious he never had a chance to be a puppy, play with toys, have medical care, learn manners etc, With time and devotion he has adjusted to the lifestyle of his foster family. He is fantastic with all dogs that he has met regardless of size. Any new dog that walks through his foster home is immediately greeted with zero animosity, He does not like cats so will require a feline free home. He has learned he cannot jump up and is no longer mouthy.

This big boy is over 100lbs now and will continue to build muscle. He should reach a minimum of 120lbs. Jericho is quite good on a leash as we have been instructed to turn and give him a treat each time he pulls. He definitely is vocal and will talk to you when he wants something, He will pick up his bowl and drop it at your feet if you miss feeding time or his water bowl is empty. He is still being fed three times a day and is on Royal Canin Giant Junior Puppy food, totally 7 cups a day. Our Jericho, loves bully sticks. It really helps to keep him quiet when he gets overly excited. He is never crated due to the previous abuse of crating in his past. He is housebroken and again is used to going out 4 times a day.

The ideal home for this big boy is one with either another large female that is dog social or one who is home more often then not, works from home etc. He is vey strong so would not recommend him for a family that is retired. He is used to sleeping on his foster parent's bed and is allowed on the couches. We would love to see him in obedience classes for at least one season. Although he loves everybody and all children, homes with children 12 and up would be necessary due to his size and the ability to easily knock a child over where bouncing into a room. A child free home will also work. Due to his size, a two adult home would work best. Experience raising this breed would be an asset. His new family must be prepared for him to be a velcro dog.

Jericho is neurtered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped and dewormed.

We would like to thank Heidi K Photography for these beautiful snow shots!

Visit barksandmeows.ca for an online application.
