Meet JELLY BELLY ELLIE

CUE THE THEME SONG FROM ROCKY CUZ JB ELLIE, IS THE PICTURE OF PERSEVERANCE,

I mean, just look at that last photo of her. Poor Ellie came to us, grossly overweight and it was killing her. We knew she had so much more life in her, than her obese body would allow. We knew this because the twinkle in her eye, told the story of a dog that was not ready to die, fat and exhausted.

Ellie came to us from a very sad situation. Her previous owner, who loved his dogs with food, passed away and left Ellie and her four canine friends, behind in his house with nobody to care for them. A neighbor knew this person had dogs, so checked in and found five, all needing help he could not give, so he called us.

Ellie is the last one to be placed up for adoption. We had our work ahead of us, getting her ready for her new and healthier life and Ellie was ALL in on the transformation.

First we placed her on a vet outlined diet and we are proud to say that she lost over six pounds, (which is around 50 in human pounds, for a 200lb person) over the course of several months. She also had a mouth full of rotten teeth, from a lifetime of eating table scraps, so after two dentals and 26 extractions, Ellie felt like a new lady.

Initially, it was thought her weight and poor coat condition, might be from Cushings but tests came back negative. Ellie was just a victim of being loved with human food...and lots of it.

Ellie is eleven years young and still working on her diet. She eats a prescribed kibble for her joints and to encourage a healthier weight. She loves going on easy strolls around the neighborhood and for longer ones, loves sitting in her stroller, so the younger dogs can have longer walks. She is also a very good traveler and will take up her spot as shotgun rider, and hopes whoever adopts her, will buy her a booster seat, so she can see out the window, on these auto adventures.

Ellie is as sweet as they come too. She is gentle and friendly with everyone, including dogs, cats and kids and is housebroken. You can leave her at liberty when you leave the house, but if you prefer the safety of a crate, she is ok with that too. Just make it cozy and comfortable.

Because Ellie lived most of her life, overweight, she has some early onset arthritis that is managed with her special food but a house with a lot of stairs, is probably not one she would choose, especially since she is one of those dogs, that will follow her person, from room to room, just to stay near them to provide her company. She can manage a few porch steps or sunken living room steps but more than that and she will struggle. She is great with kids, but is not a kids dog. She does not fetch balls or love to run around playing tug or chase. Those days are behind her but she would make a great listener, when grandkids want to read her a book or snuggle buddy for Disney movie time.

We have listed Ellie as a special needs girl, simply because her lifetime obesity will require her to stay on a special, joint supportive food and until she is at her ideal weight, one that is low in calories, like Hill's Metabolic and Mobility, which she is doing GREAT on. She also has compromised sight, but does not let that slow her down. Still, given she is only eleven, potential new owners should be ready for the responsibility of a dog that will benefit from a home where the furniture does not get moved around a ton and where things are not left laying around, on the floor, for her to stumble into and over.

Other than that, JB Ellie, is ready to rock. Her heart is huge and surprisingly healthy and she is ready to use it, to love her sunset person, until her very last breath. With proper care, that is a half dozen years down the road...maybe even more.

So if you love a sweet old lady, who loves leisure strolls, on a leash or in a stroller, sunny day garden naps, car ride adventures; one that loves to be near, providing snuggles and enjoying affection in return, who is friend to all, animal or human, please think about sweet little ole Ellie.

To make an arrangement to meet her, please go to our website at www.allmuttsgreatandsmall.org/adoption and submit the application. With approval, we will set up a date and hope the sparks fly.

Ellie is spayed, up to date on five way and rabies vaccines, fecal checked clear of worms, microchipped and flea/tick free. She will come with baseline bloodwork showing a pretty dang healthy senior, and minus 26 infection filled teeth.

Look at that face and know that she is just as sweet as she looks and ready for her best life yet.

Adoption fee is $150
