Jeffrey's Story
Everyone say hello to Jeffy boy! He's a 2yr old mix between a maltese/poodle & a maltese/parti yorkie. Weighs maybe 16-18lbs. Extremely happy, playful dog seeking the perfect home!

Jeffrey is pretty well crate trained (used to going in 1 when he's asked) but he has a lot of energy & will spin circles wanting to come out asap. This guy would be good if needed to crate while you're out of the house but he is hoping for a future where someone will spend more time with him & he might not need a crate very often! He's a very sweet dog, eager to please, but just needs a little work to shape his behavior before he can be his best self :)

He's had work on potty training but not enough to make it stick fully. He is doing much better at holding it inside his crate & during brief periods of free time inside! His family had a hard time house breaking him in his puppy stage so he was definitely confused on the concept & will need some ongoing work in that department. He's accustomed to wearing diapers if you wish to use those. He will sometimes pee out the side of a metal crate if given the chance & does better learning to hold it inside a plastic crate. He also knows the word "potty" and he'll make the effort to go in the yard if you catch him at the right time & ask him to try & go potty.

Jeffrey LOVES soft toys & jumping up on the couch with you. He's a very energetic playful dog & we're hoping to find an active couple/family to give him LOTS of attention. He is a bit mouthy (gives constant licks/kisses) so we won't be adopting him to families with young children that would not enjoy such interaction. He does get along with cats & most other dogs but he doesn't appreciate dominant/pushy dogs in his face. Jeffrey's best friends have been smaller, more passive dogs. He gets a bit nippy (just standing up for himself) with hyper young pups who try to bounce all over him. He may get along fine with bigger dogs but also may be intimidated just depending on their energy level. If the other dog isn't too overpowering, generally speaking, Jeffrey really enjoys other dogs' company.

This guy is a good "watch dog" who barks when new people come into his home. He even gives a little growl when there are strangers (workers typically) walking around who he is keeping an eye on. But he's very sweet once he gets to know new people & he has never shown aggression towards anybody. He's an extremely affectionate dog but there will likely be a bit of transition period when he goes to his new home where he will need to settle in & get used to you before you'll see that side of him. We've been working on taking Jeffrey out in public for socialization sessions. He tends to get overwhelmed by new people in different directions, quite barky, nervous, but he has successfully met some strangers who offered enough patience to let him relax. He's a tad more anxious of men than women. He has done great with my 9yr old niece but is understandable scared of new children we've met in public. If someone approaches us with a dog he will focus on the dog & wag his tail, hoping to meet a friend! Like many dogs, he gets very triggered by wheels passing by. I've never seen him lunge at a person or even a big scary group of people, but he did lunge after a skateboard & a stroller that rolled by us. That tells me that he really does not want to be mean towards people! Wheels = enemy, lol, but strangers are just unknown & intimidating. With more socialization he will continue to be more trusting of new people & hopefully one day he can confidently show that loving side of himself to strangers with no fear holding him back.

His groomer said he can be a bit crazy when trying to restrain & work on him, but again no aggression issues seen. I actually asked her about that "crazy behavior" after she made the comment & by the next groom she already said he wasn't difficult & adjusted pretty quickly. Please understand the grooming needs for this type of dog can be very expensive to maintain!! If you do not know how to groom at home, the coat upkeep will cost about $80-120 a month. And if you want to keep his coat longer, in the fluffy look (like these pics) you will HAVE to brush this dog every day or two. It's not the kind of coat you can ignore. Doodles get neglected so often when people fail to understand that.

Could you be this guy's forever home? He's SO loving, but we will be very picky about making sure his adopter has the right household for him to thrive. He's neutered, microchipped, up to date with vaccines & current on heartworm prevention. His adoption fee will be $700 to cover his vetting costs as well as a donation to the rescue. A young, small breed like him is considered an "angel dog" which means the extra adoption cost that he can bring in will keep the rescue funded for full operation. The fee is not negotiable. He's currently open for meet & greets (with same day adoption available) to approved applicants only!
