Jaxen's Story
ABOUT JAXEN
This handsome hound dog is 2 years old and sure to keep you entertained! He came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Louisiana when they no longer had space for him. Despite being in the shelter, Jaxen is happy to make new friends and show off his goofy personality. In true hound fashion, he loves to sniff and explore, letting his nose lead the way. Once he's done following his nose, he's more than happy to settle in for some snuggles with his people. He has enjoyed participating in our Doggy Day Out program, where he can explore to his hearts content! Here's what one volunteer had to say about him:

"We visited a friend's cafe where they serve dishes for dogs, he devoured a bowl of ice cream. In fact, he accepted and pursued treats all morning. We walked and sniffed, spent a bit of down time on a bench, and I tried bringing him to my home. We ran into a chatty neighbor walking a dog. Jackson kinda was out of control, with pulling and jumping and straining to get free so we went back to my car instead to calm him down. We sat for a while, more treats and comfort, then started back to shelter. He was able to jump in on his own with lots of strength and willingness. He was lying down a lot so I turned off the radio and his energy perked and interest perked up 100%. The cafe was nice because he sensed a warm welcome from the staff who all had a special way with dogs, lots of calm conversation, and really didn't want to leave." - Karen

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
