Jasper's Story
Oh my goodness is this boy sweet! He is just a whole body wiggle when he meets new people and is an aggressive cuddler at home! Jasper is a 3 year old red/blue heeler mix, who is extremely loyal, wants to follow you around and loves to play (he’s so good at fetch). He is so well trained that his foster mom, who is also a trainer, says he is better trained than her own dogs! He also loves to play with his foster brothers and sisters and is currently living with 3 other dogs, 2 cats, a horse and chickens. He is a young herding dog who needs and wants to be very active and needs a home, with lots of hikes, walks, adventures and playtime, but also enjoys being a couch potato on a rainy day.

So why is this perfect dog in the shelter? Unfortunately, in his original home, he had a traumatic experience with a child jumping on top of him from a couch and ever since, he will react if he is overstimulated and cornered (this usually happens when meeting new people in a group of other dogs and is pretty predictable and preventable) . He doesn’t know his own strength or how big he is, so when he gets this way, he, sadly, can hurt someone around him, whether it’s another dog, cat or human. His last two families gave up on him, and he’s looking for someone to give him that chance so he can have the life he deserves. His trainer/foster mom recommends keeping him in a muzzle (which he is used to) and on some anxiety meds for the first few months in his new home to make sure the new owners can learn his mannerisms and what to watch out for when around other animals and people. With time, he should settle in perfectly, but he really needs a patient, experienced owner without kids to give him that chance and not give up on him!
