Jansen's Story

***CURRENTLY HANGING OUT WITH ONE OF OUR AMAZING FOSTER FAMILIES!

Meet Jansen — a 1-year-2-month-old Beagle/Heeler mix, about 38 lbs, with a tender heart and a playful spirit just waiting to feel safe.

At first meeting, you may see a shy, unsure dog. Jansen can be cautious with new people, lowering himself close to the ground with tucked ears and careful eyes. He is not aggressive — just sensitive and trying to understand his surroundings.

But that first impression is not the full story.

In a foster home, Jansen relaxed into family life beautifully. He lounged comfortably, ran happily at the dog park, played with his favorite toys, and proudly showed off his “sit” on command. Once he feels secure, his affectionate and playful personality shines. He follows his people around, seeks out pets, and enjoys interactive games like fetch and tug.

Jansen lived outdoors on a chain before coming to us, so indoor life and routine are still new. Structure, patience, and predictability help him build confidence quickly. When given the chance to move at his own pace, he blossoms.

He enjoys other dogs and would likely thrive with a playful canine companion. Introductions should be thoughtful and play should remain positive and structured as he continues gaining confidence.

Jansen does best in a calm home. Busy, young children can feel overwhelming to him, so a home with older children or teens — or adults only — would be ideal.

When walked through the cat room, he showed no significant interest, though slow introductions are always recommended.

Jansen is sensitive, intelligent, and deeply loyal once he trusts you. With patience, consistency, and kindness, he will grow into an incredibly devoted companion.

If you’re willing to look beyond first impressions, you may just discover the real Jansen — and he is worth it.

Jansen is neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations (including rabies), dewormed, and started on flea/tick prevention.

Apply to adopt here:
https://orangecountyva.gov/159/Pet-Adoption-Foster-Care-Information
