Jamari

Meet the wonderful Jamari. Jamari is a one year old yellow lab mix who is blind and sweet as can be. The eye specialist determined that he has detached retinas and thinks it is possibly congenital. The doctor does think he may see shadows but Jamari gets around well and you would not know he is blind. Since he has been blind from an early age he has learned how to compensate for it and he does not know any different. He responds well to his name and is friendly to everyone and quite trusting with no fear. He is just a lovebug. His owners were going to have him euthanized and we could not let a healthy dog with a vision deficit who has such a great spirit be put down for such a minor issue. <br/><br/>Being a one year old lab he needs plenty of exercise and needs some training and structure but he is eager to learn and will be fabulous with structure and a little bit of training. Because he listens well he may be ok off of leash as long as he is within earshot and you have an eye on him. He does use his nose and ears to navigate. He does quite well in new situations and he gets along fine with other dogs however, we don't like to surprise him with kids running up and dogs jumping on him due to his vision.
