Sometimes all you need in life is for someone to believe in you. Sometimes you just need your one little chance to shine for everything to fall into place. That’s what happened to me! I was given the gift of a foster home, and suddenly I was able to show everyone what an amazing dog I am. Quite simply, I’m just a really good boy. The best boy! I’m gentle, sweet, and affectionate, yet independent enough to not be clingy or needy. And I’m playful and silly and so much fun. I’m always ready for whatever adventures await, but I’m perfectly content to be a homebody as well. All I truly want in life is your attention and for you to spend time with me. That’s what makes me happy. I hope maybe I can make you happy too. I would love the chance to be your dog.

I’m a handsome, 1-year old, 63-pound typical Lab mix, with an expressive face, soft, floppy ears, beautiful fur, and a friendly, charming, delightful personality. I’m working on housebreaking, and I’ve learned how to use a dog door. When a dog door is available, I don’t have any accidents, but I’m still learning how to let you know when I need to go out if the dog door is closed. Please stay patient with me as I learn and figure things out. Meanwhile, I’m fully crate trained, although I’m not the sort of dog who will be happy being left alone in a crate all day. I want to be by your side, experiencing all that life has to offer.

I was born in a rural shelter in Arkansas with limited resources, and I had lived there my whole life. It was a difficult place to grow up, but it was the only life I knew. Getting transferred to Wayside was a scary and confusing time, but I am resilient and I quickly started to make friends. I worked for months with the Wayside staff to learn manners and life skills that have prepared me for my next chapter as a family dog. And then my best day ever happened. Foster Mom came to take me home! It’s hard for me to put into words what a gift my time in foster has been. To have the chance to be part of a family living in a home is beyond what I ever could have imagined. It has changed my life. And now I’m ready for you!

Everything about living in a home was new and strange to me, but I quickly settled in and got comfortable. Although I have lots of energy and I absolutely love to run and play outside, I have no trouble being calm and chill as well. I started off staying in my crate at night, and I still eat my meals there and sometimes curl up for a nap with the door open during the day. But these days, I get to peacefully sleep on the couch with Foster Mom’s other dog, who I adore. Foster Mom works from home, which I love, and I get to roam free around the house and in our fenced backyard through the dog door at my leisure. I’m well behaved in the house, other than occasionally picking up a shoe to carry around or begging for a bite during dinnertime. Well, I’m still learning, so Foster Mom doesn’t expect perfection at all times, although I did hear her say that I’m her favorite foster dog ever. Ah, that makes me so happy.

I can’t wait to greet everyone in the family when they come home from school or work. I used to jump on people, but now I’ve learned to say hello with an excited circle, a wiggle, and a wag. I’ve loved to cuddle and give kisses to the whole family since the very first day. I’m a little awkward, but I happily and contentedly climb onto and curl up on their laps any chance I get. And I love to be around Foster Mom’s teenagers! I’m so gentle, friendly, and polite with them, even taking my treats softly from their hands. We are best buddies.

I will need daily exercise in my new home. I’m still working on my leash skills. A harness helps, but I’m a strong and athletic dog, and I sometimes pull on my leash as I sniff and check out all the interesting scents along the way. I’m not reactive to people or dogs. I might make a good running partner, if you’re into that sort of thing. Meanwhile, I’m able to release tons of energy in Foster Mom’s fenced backyard, where I run, play, and explore, preferably with her other dog or anyone else in the family. They keep a pile of leaves for mulch, and I like to run at full speed, jumping right into the pile, pouncing and rolling around in pure joy. Fun little games like this are new to me and they make me so happy. I will need to have a securely fenced yard in my new home as well, and I’d love to have another friendly, active dog to play with. I’ll need to meet them before we go home together, to make sure that we’re a great match.

I had a tough start to my life, but please don’t feel sad for me. I am all about living for today and looking forward to my very bright future. I have met so many kind people who have helped me along on my journey. The people who tried their best at my first shelter, my Wayside friends who never gave up on me as I learned so much about being a normal dog, my foster family who gave me a chance to shine and who celebrated with me as I blossomed into the dog t
