Sometimes all you need in life is for someone to believe in you. Sometimes you just need your one little chance to shine for everything to fall into place. That’s what happened to me! I was given the gift of a foster home, and suddenly I was able to show everyone what an amazing dog I am. Quite simply, I’m just a really good boy. The best boy! I’m gentle, sweet, and affectionate, yet independent enough to not be clingy or needy. And I’m playful and silly and so much fun. I’m always ready for whatever adventures await, but I’m perfectly content to be a homebody as well. All I truly want in life is your attention and for you to spend time with me. That’s what makes me happy. I hope maybe I can make you happy too. I would love the chance to be your dog.

I’m a handsome, 1-year old, 63-pound typical Lab mix, with an expressive face, soft, floppy ears, beautiful fur, and a friendly, charming, delightful personality. I’m working on housebreaking, and I’ve learned how to use a dog door. When a dog door is available, I don’t have any accidents, but I’m still learning how to let you know when I need to go out if the dog door is closed. Please stay patient with me as I learn and figure things out. Meanwhile, I’m fully crate trained, although I’m not the sort of dog who will be happy being left alone in a crate all day. I want to be by your side, experiencing all that life has to offer.

I was born in a rural shelter in Arkansas with limited resources, and I had lived there my whole life. It was a difficult place to grow up, but it was the only life I knew. Getting transferred to Wayside was a scary and confusing time, but I am resilient and I quickly started to make friends. I worked for months with the Wayside staff to learn manners and life skills that have prepared me for my next chapter as a family dog. And then my best day ever happened. Foster Mom came to take me home! It’s hard for me to put into words what a gift that was. To have the chance to be part of a family living in a home was beyond what I ever could have imagined. It changed my life. I spent over a month in my foster home, and I had the time of my life. I’m back at the shelter now, staying in a quiet area, where I can relax. Please ask to meet me!

Everything about living in a home was new and strange to me, but I quickly settled in and got comfortable. Although I have lots of energy and I absolutely loved to run and play outside, I had no trouble being calm and chill as well. I started off staying in my crate at night, and I continued to eat my meals there and sometimes curled up for a nap with the door open during the day. But once I got settled in, I was able to peacefully sleep on the couch with Foster Mom’s other dog, who I adored. Foster Mom worked from home, which I loved, and she let me roam free around the house and in our fenced backyard through the dog door at my leisure during the day. I was well behaved in the house, other than occasionally picking up a shoe to carry around or begging for a bite during dinnertime. I was still learning, so Foster Mom didn’t expect perfection at all times, although I did hear her say that I was her favorite foster dog ever. Ah, that made me feel so happy and proud.

I couldn’t wait to greet everyone in the family when they came home from school or work. I learned to say hello with an excited circle, a wiggle, and a wag instead of jumping. I loved to cuddle and give kisses to the whole family from the very first day. I was a little awkward, but I happily and contentedly climbed onto and curled up on their laps any chance I got. And I loved to be around Foster Mom’s teenagers! I was always gentle, friendly, and polite with them, even taking my treats softly from their hands. We were best buddies.

I will need daily exercise in my new home. I’m still working on my leash skills. A harness helps, but I’m a strong and athletic dog, and I sometimes pull on my leash as I sniff and check out all the interesting scents along the way. I’m not reactive to people or dogs. I might make a good running partner, if you’re into that sort of thing. I was able to release tons of energy in Foster Mom’s fenced backyard, where I ran, played, and explored, preferably with her other dog or anyone else in the family. I loved running at full speed and pouncing in a pile of leaves in pure joy. Fun, simple games like this were new to me and they made me so happy. I will need to have a securely fenced yard in my new home as well, and I’d love to have another friendly, active dog to play with. I’ll need to meet them before we go home together, just to make sure that we’re a great match.

I had a tough start to my life, but please don’t feel sad for me. I am all about living for today and looking forward to my very bright future. I have met so many kind people who have helped me along on my journey. The people who tried their best at my first shelter, my Wayside friends who never gave up on me as I learned so much about being
