Jake's Story

Meet Jake: Handsome, Hilarious & Operating at Full Throttle
At three years old, Jake is technically an adult.
Jake has not been informed of this.
This stunning silver Weimaraner is all puppy wrapped in a sleek, classic Weim athlete's body. He's handsome, beautifully built, fearless, curious, ridiculously athletic, and blessed with what appears to be a bottomless supply of enthusiasm.
Jake has two speeds:
ALL SYSTEMS GO. And completely zonked.
When he's on, he is ON. He wants to run, explore, investigate, play, sniff, learn, and generally find out what the world has to offer. Eventually, even Jake runs out of Jake. When that happens, the batteries abruptly go dead and our silver tornado crashes into one very handsome sleeping Weim.
Jake is extremely social with other dogs and needs canine companionship in his forever home. Other dogs give him an important outlet for his energy and playfulness.
We should probably discuss his social skills, though.
If Jake could introduce himself to another dog, we're fairly certain it would go something like:
"Hi! My name is Jake. I'm an asshole. Wanna play?"
His intentions are good. His boundaries? Still under construction.
Jake can be enthusiastic to the point of obnoxious and sometimes misses the signals that another dog might be finished playing before Jake is finished playing. For that reason, his canine housemates need to be confident, tolerant dogs that won't be easily overwhelmed by his exuberance and can tell him when enough is enough. He has successfully been around smaller dogs, but we would not consider Jake cat safe.
And as wild as this boy can be outside, Jake absolutely has a soft side. He loves affection and enjoys cuddling with his people.
However, Jake does not like being startled when sleeping. He is not an aggressive dog, but when suddenly awakened, he can react before his brain catches up with what's happening. We believe Jake will be most successful in a home where his sleeping space is clearly defined and respected and where everyone understands that when Jake is in his space, he's allowed to rest undisturbed.
Jake is crate trained and housebroken, and structure is where this dog is going to shine.
Give him clear boundaries. Give him consistency. Give his body somewhere to go and, just as importantly, give that brain something to do.
In fact, we'd love to see someone take all this horsepower and put it to work.
Jake could be an excellent candidate for agility, nose work, dog sports, or other structured training activities. He's fearless about exploring new things, naturally curious, extremely athletic, and willing to investigate what's put in front of him. Rather than simply trying to wear Jake out, his ideal person will understand the value of engaging his mind while giving that incredible athleticism a productive outlet.
There is a phenomenal dog underneath all that enthusiasm.
Jake isn't going to be the right fit for every household, and that's okay. We will be discerning about his placement because we want to give him every opportunity to flourish and succeed. He needs someone who appreciates a high-energy Weimaraner, understands boundaries and structure, and looks at a dog like Jake as an opportunity rather than a challenge.
And honestly, Jake has been waiting far longer than a young dog should have to wait.
If you're an experienced dog person looking at this gorgeous silver athlete and thinking, "That doesn't scare me. That sounds like fun," we would love to talk with you.
Because in the right home, we think Jake could be a phenomenal lifelong companion. He'll get you moving. He'll make you laugh. He'll challenge you occasionally. He'll love hard.
And eventually, he'll crash beside you and sleep like none of it ever happened.
Life with Jake will never be boring.
But really, who gets a Weimaraner because they're looking for boring?

Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
Adoption Application Request Interested in adopting? GLWR is committed to giving rescue dogs the best chance at a wonderful life. To that end, we ask you to know these things: 1. The application process is not instantaneous. We are all volunteers and we move things along as quickly as possible. We need to get to know you through the application process; just like we get to know the dogs through our intake process. It is in the best interest of all involved that this be done correctly. 2. We do not hold dogs. Approved adopters have their choice of appropriate dogs for their situation. If you see a dog on the website that you would like, we cannot guarantee that that dog will still be available once your application is approved. 3. Note to Families with children: Weimaraners are large, energetic dogs who need a ton of daily exercise. They can be great family dogs, but will think nothing of knocking down toddlers to get to the door, or snatch cookies from their hands.
