Jack Frost's Story
Jack Frost ("Jack") is a 20-lb, 1 year-old mix with a scruffy white and blonde coat.
Formerly known as Tommy at the shelter, his shy nature nearly cost him his life, where he was placed on the euthanasia list for being timid and overwhelmed. Today, thanks to a patient foster, a confident pack of foster sibling dogs, and a quiet place to decompress, he is blossoming more every single day.

Jack is learning that people aren't so scary, and will accept treats - but not pets - from strangers. After a few hours with a dog sitter, he warmed up and sought out affection. He is affectionately sweet and snuggly once he feels bonded. His silliness and confidence truly blossoms when he plays with another well-matched dog - he loves to chase, wrestle, and go for long walks with his pack.

Jack is potty trained, sleeps through the night in a dog bed in the humans' room, and happily hangs out with his foster mom while she works from home. He rides beautifully in a car booster seat and loves to explore new places. His leash walking needs some patient training because he is so enthusiastic to explore! He eats his meals happily in a crate, but does not enjoy being left alone; he'd love to be a full-time companion to his favorite human.

Because he demonstrates some fear-based and resource guarding behaviors, Jack is recommended for an adult-only home and may do best with a single person as he seems to pick one human to bond with. He has displayed some resource guarding of his favorite human, which will need to be addressed with training and structure in a multi-person household. Kids are not recommended, unless they are older and dog-savvy. He shows great curiosity about cats and could be fine with a confident feline companion, after carefully supervised introductions.

Jack needs an adopter with experience nurturing a timid pup, who has patience, understanding, and will use structure and positive reinforcement to continue helping Jack become the best boy. An after adoption plan will need to be in place that is specific to his needs for there to be a successful transition, including an adopter committed to providing mental and physical stimulation, socialization, and structured training.

In summary:
Age: ~1 year old (est birthday Nov. 2024)
Breed: Chihuahua, Poodle, & lots of small dog breeds including Bichon Frise and Maltese. Embark results available!
Dogs: Yes
Cats: Maybe
Humans: Adults, or savvy older kids only; may prefer a single adult household, or needs to be given time and opportunity to equally bond with and gain trust with all humans in the home
Training: Potty trained, knows his name, "sit", great in the car, needs work on leash and crate training. Highly food-motivated

First Step Is To Apply Now
[Apply Now](http://form.jotform.com/underdogca/dog-adoption-application)
For application updates, forwarding requests, or any questions, contact us at adopt@underdogca.com.
