Jack

This is Jack. Jack is an approximately 10 pound neutered male terrier mix that came to us because he hit hard times. He was accidentally stepped on and the owners originally sought treatment for his broken leg, but they were unable to care for him and ultimately surrendered him to the vet clinic after his cast got wet and all of his skin on his leg in the cast became infected and shed off. It was pretty bad there for a while and they didn't even know if he would keep his leg. Thankfully he is all better now!! He will most likely have some arthritic changes in his joints in that leg but other than that our vet has cleared him to be adopted. He has been neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested and microchipped and is ready for his new home!<br/><br/>Jack does not potty everywhere in the house but we would not call him housebroken yet. He holds it for as long as he can but if he isn't let out then he will potty. He holds it in his crate during the day for about 5 hours and at night we put him to bed around 9pm and he holds it until 6am but needs to go out right away. He uses a doggy door to go out to play but still needs to be reminded that it is to use when he wants to go outside.<br/><br/>Jack really really wants to be everyone's friend. However, he is still nervous about the initial greeting. We believe that this was because he had to wear a cone for several weeks and he was living in a vet clinic getting regular bandage changes, x-rays, and medications. If you had medications shoved down your throat and were poked prodded and made to feel pain you would probably be a little nervous as well. Don't get us wrong, this vet clinic truly saved Jack's leg, but it can make a dog nervous in that situation. As he has been in the foster homes for longer, he is less nervous around new people. He is a sweet little guy and really likes the attention, We took him to a Farmer's Market and it took him only about 10 minutes and he relaxed and watched what was going on around him. He was trying to say hello to the kids and even jumped up in a baby's lap.<br/><br/>Jack is good on leash, good with other dogs and good with kids and adults. Because he can sometimes bark at new noises and when he gets excited we think he would be best in a home without shared walls, no apartment living for this guy. We also think that he would do well with a doggy companion. He really loves to play with his dog friends and we think a social dog of his size can help him with any trepidation that he may have.
