Jack's Story

Meet Jack: A Resilient, Sweet Senior Ready for His True Forever Home!

If you are looking for a gentle, easygoing companion to fill your heart and home with warmth, meet Jack. He is a 10-year-old, 12-pound Poodle mix (non-shed) who is the ultimate definition of a resilient survivor. Despite a heartbreaking past, Jack has absolutely no malice in his soul. He is incredibly grateful for his second chance at life.

Blind But Unstoppable
Jack is vision impaired, but he does not let that slow him down. He is an adaptable, smart boy who picks up on household routines and layouts amazingly fast. It took him only about five days to completely map out his foster mom's apartment! He easily tracks the patterns of the home and comfortably navigates around his small foster-dog siblings.

He is fully leash trained and walks beautifully. While he moves at a slow, leisurely pace, he thoroughly enjoys his walks, pausing to sniff every single leaf and happily catching the breeze. Because he cannot see, he appreciates very slow, gentle introductions to new people and dogs, but he is completely non-reactive and will pass other pups on the street with a happy wag.

The Ultimate Low-Maintenance Roommate
Jack is a wonderfully mellow boy who thrives on routine. During the day, he is the perfect companion for a hybrid worker or a peaceful household. His favorite activities include:
• Snoozing & Snuggling: He loves getting scratches, laying down right next to you, and cuddling up with a soft shirt that smells like his favorite human.
• Brain Games: He is a big fan of enrichment activities like lick mats and loves playing with squeaky toys.
• Foodie at Heart: He has a wonderful, healthy appetite and can easily be won over with his absolute favorites: cheese and peanut butter!
• Excellent Sleeper: He is fully crate trained and sleeps soundly in his crate all night until morning.

Jack is currently working on his house training. Because he was only recently neutered, he has a habit of marking inside. However, his foster mom has a flawless system: he wears a belly band/diaper indoors, and he never soils his crate or his sleeping area. When taken out at regular, predictable intervals, he does fantastic, and he is improving every single day!

A Note on His Transition & Care
Because of his blindness and his past, Jack needs a little extra time and patience to acclimate to a brand-new environment. To help him feel safe during his adjustment period and ease his mild separation anxiety, he takes a daily dose of Trazodone and Melatonin, along with Fish Oil to keep his coat and joints healthy.

Once he feels secure, he is completely fine being left alone. In fact, his foster mom works a 9-to-5 job, and Jack happily spends his days in the peace and quiet of the home, snoozing the hours away until she returns. If he gets startled or bumped into unexpectedly by another dog, he might let out a quick bark, but a gentle pet and a reassuring voice settle him down instantly.

Jack's Ideal Retirement Castle
Jack is a gentle soul who would make an absolutely perfect match for a senior adopter (75 years) or anyone looking for a low-energy sidekick. His dream home includes:
• A Simple Layout: A single-story home or an apartment with minimal clutter makes it easy and safe for him to map out his surroundings.
• A Peaceful Vibe: A low-traffic, slower-paced environment where he can enjoy his golden years in peace.
• Pet Preferences: He would thrive as an only dog where he can soak up all the love, or as a second pup alongside a very calm, low-energy dog who respects his space. He is also confirmed good with cats!

Jack is fully vetted, neutered, microchipped, and has his current shot records ready to go. He is currently being fostered in Los Angeles, California. He has spent his whole life waiting for someone to treat him like the treasure he is—could that person be you?

We are now accepting adoption applications for Jack’s very well-deserved retirement chapter! https://bichonrescuebrigade.org/adopt/adoption-form/
