Jack 's Story
Jack’s story is nothing short of a miracle and a true testament to the will to survive and overcome even the greatest hardships.
Before we dive into how resilient Jack is, let us give you the basics. Jack is a shepherd mix, approximately 4–5 years old. He is extremely obedient, knows basic commands, and is eager to please. Jack loves everyone he meets and has a very endearing personality. Oh and did we mention this boy is a stunner!!
Jack cannot be in a home with cats or other dogs. While he is a true gentleman on a leash, he prefers to be the only pet in the home where he can soak up all the love and attention.
Jack was first spotted on the outskirts of town in early November 2025, extremely emaciated. It was shocking to see him in that condition. Despite multiple attempts, he was able to evade trapping efforts. What the community feared was a dog that had perished during the harsh Montana winter turned into something incredible—Jack was spotted again in a remote area at the end of January 2026.
It took an entire week of safety baiting and strategic trapping to finally bring Jack to safety. Once in rescue, it became clear that Jack had experienced neglect long before he was abandoned.
When Jack entered rescue, he weighed only 42 lbs. It is believed he should be closer to 80 lbs at a healthy weight. Despite everything he has endured, Jack’s spirit remains unshaken.
Everyone who meets Jack falls in love with him. He greets people with a goofy smile and a constantly wagging tail—he truly has never met a stranger. It is remarkable how loving and trusting he is after all he has been through.
Jack is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and dewormed. He has also had extensive bloodwork and x-rays completed and is healthy aside from his continued recovery from starvation.
Jack would thrive with a best friend who enjoys a more active lifestyle and can continue helping him regain his strength and confidence.
Homeownership and a fenced yard are preferred. This rescue will not adopt out to individuals with unaltered domestic pets.
Montana dog Jack rescued after months surviving wilderness near Alberton
Adoption Fee $200
