Ivy's Story

Ivy has never had the stability of a loving home, and the stress of shelter life is taking its toll on her- hard.

Before coming to our shelter, Ivy had been tied up to a post, a tight collar around her neck preventing her from moving more than a few inches in any direction. And while tied up to this post, the derecho that knocked down trees and powerlines swept through Northwest Indiana, trying to pull Ivy with it.
Only the help of a passerby, who cut her loose from that post, saved Ivy. She came to our shelter, drenched and terrified.

For the first week of being at our shelter, Ivy wouldn't move from her pile of blankets in the corner of the kennel. It might have been the first time she ever got to snuggle up and take a break. But her rest was short, as the hustle and bustle of shelter life is stressful and never ending. She's become more social as she's stayed at our shelter, and we believe that at a home she will be a great, active companion.

We know Ivy can come off as a lot. She can't help but get so excited for attention that she jumps and barks, eager to give all of her love to whoever will spend time with her. But if you wait just a few minutes, she remembers her manners and sits patiently for gentle head rubs and butt pets.

Ivy loves to go for long walks and lay in the sun She loves snuggling, playing with a kong, and learning new tricks like sit and paw.

Ivy is more than just a sad story- she's a companion, looking for her lifelong friend.

Humane Indiana, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
Adoption Procedures to bring your new furry family member home: 1. Visit our Shelter! We can help you find the “paw-fect” pet. Our staff and volunteers can help you identify an animal(s) that fits your home and lifestyle. When you’re ready to meet with the selected animal(s), a staff member or approved volunteer are the only ones authorized to remove animals from their kennels. 2. Complete an adoption application. We want to know all about you! After all, we get attached to our animals, too, and want to make sure they’re going to a loving home. After making an adoption decision, please provide the front desk receptionist with a name, cage number or description of the animal, and complete an adoption application. Staff members or volunteers are available to assist you. 3. We’ll work with you to ensure that it’s a win-win situation for you and the animal you select. Potential adopters will meet with an adoption counselor to ensure a good fit for the adopter’s home environment and lifestyle. 4. Potential adopters must provide a photo ID and be "Head of Household" (or have Head of Household present/approval). 5. We know how exciting it can be to adopt a pet, so animals may be available to take home the day you visit. Please note, however same-day adoptions are not guaranteed. We promise to proceed with adoptions as soon as possible. 6. After adoption is approved, we can only hold adult animals for 24 hours. Puppies and kittens must go home same day. We need to make room for the next group of pets who need a place to stay while they wait for their forever home! 7. Humane Indiana reserves the right to deny any application.
