Ivy's Story
Animal Profile: Ivy is an approximately 2 year old, 11 lb female short-haired Chihuahua that joined us from Stanislaus Modesto in California on 6/11/2025. Ivy was brought into the shelter after her sister passed due to heat stroke from being left outside. She has been a shelter volunteer and employee favorite -- they've said that she enjoys pets and being carried. Ivy has been sharing a kennel with another dog and they have been doing just fine. We will share more about Ivy as we get to know her in foster care.

Foster Update: If you're looking for a super sweet, silly, and snuggly companion, Ivy may be your girl! This adorable Chihuahua mix is full of love and personality, with a gentle spirit and an ever-growing confidence. While she’s still a little timid when meeting new people, she warms up with patience; once she trusts you, you’ve got a belly-up best friend for life.

Ivy adores belly rubs. Just walk up to her, and she’ll happily flop over for tummy scratches! Her hobbies include snuggling beside you on the couch, taking naps, and learning new tricks. She mostly has sit, stay, and wait!. She's more of a sit-close-beside-you type than a lap dog, and she’s both house trained and crate trained, making her transition to a new home a breeze.

While Ivy is a sweet and affectionate girl, she does have a few quirks that her future family should be prepared to support with patience and consistent training. She can be a little bit dog-reactive on walks, especially around high-energy or overly forward dogs, and she has a history of resource guarding (mostly people) - though she’s improving every day with structure and guidance. She would do best with a family that understands dog behavior and is willing to continue working with her. Ivy may prefer to be the only dog in the home, or with a calm and respectful dog companion.

That said, Ivy is making fantastic progress! She has done great around children greeting her on walks, and she’s thriving in her current foster home, a condo in the city, which shows how adaptable she is. Whether you're in a house with a yard or an apartment with a cozy couch, Ivy will be happy as long as she has a safe, loving environment.

This little lady also enjoys outings with her foster family! She’s been to coffee shops, breweries, and patios, always showing off her chill and well-mannered side. Ivy is amazing in the car and on public transportation, making her the perfect portable pal for your weekend adventures.

With the right family, Ivy will absolutely blossom. She's well on her way but just needs a little patience and a lot of love to continue growing into her best self.

Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $575 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, recent exam with a veterinarian, and microchip with lifetime registration.
