Ivy's Story
Meet Ivy

Ivy is a beautiful Great Pyrenees / Anatolian Shepherd mix, around 2 years old and approximately 85 lbs. She has a serious, thoughtful presence and a very tender heart that reveals itself slowly, with time and trust.

Ivy came to the shelter after being surrendered due to a home having too many animals. For much of her life, she lived as an outdoor dog and was originally intended to be a livestock guardian. However, Ivy is not a working guardian at her core — she is a dog who needs connection, safety, and gentle guidance. Experiences like this have shaped her, and she approaches new situations carefully.

Ivy is cautious in unfamiliar environments and doesn’t rush into trusting new people. She will need multiple meets, patience, and consistency to feel safe and confident. She may also need a little extra time warming up to men she doesn’t know yet. Calm energy, a soft approach, and allowing her to set the pace make a big difference for her.

Once Ivy feels grounded with her people, her softer side begins to shine. She enjoys quiet companionship, gentle affection, playful moments, and has been known to appreciate belly rubs once trust is established. Building a relationship with Ivy is a gradual process, but one that is deeply meaningful.

Ivy does well with most dogs and would benefit greatly from having another calm, confident dog in the household to learn from and take comfort in. She has also been fine around cats in the cat room. As with any introductions, slow and thoughtful transitions are recommended.

Ivy is looking for a home that understands her need for decompression, patience, and time. She is not a dog for someone in a hurry, but for the right person willing to invest in her, Ivy has the potential to form a strong, loyal bond.

Vetting Information:
Ivy is spayed, up to date on core vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm tested. She has been seen by our veterinary team and is current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. Any available medical records will be provided at the time of adoption.

If you believe in going slow, building trust, and giving a dog the space she needs to feel safe — Ivy may be the one you’ve been waiting for.
Apply to adopt at: https://orangecountyva.gov/159/Pet-Adoption-Foster-Care-Information
