Ivory's Story

Hi, we are Onyx and Ivory!

My daddy passed away unexpectedly, and my mom became ill and couldn’t take care of us. You see, my sister and I were adopted as puppies, and we were my dad’s whole world. With health issues of her own, our mom gave us to my dad’s daughter. We lived in a cage, and every few days she would come out to fill our food bowl, but because she was on oxygen, she couldn’t do much else.

After dad’s passing, we were taken from North Carolina to Missouri in hopes of a better life. Our new mom took us to the vet, got me treated for heartworms (I feel much better now!), and made sure I was up to date on my shots.

You see, she promised that if she couldn’t keep us, she would find someone who could. We have a very high prey drive and managed to break out of—and into—a couple of fences because we wanted to play with the chickens. Unfortunately, it didnt end well.

We would love to be adopted together but would consider separate homes.

Ivory is just as sweet, with a slightly more independent personality than Onyx. She gets along well with other dogs and children of all ages. Ivory does well both on and off leash and would enjoy an active home where she can get regular exercise—she could benefit from a few extra walks or hikes to stay in shape. She is not suitable for homes with small fowl.
