10 year old male chihuahua, neutered<br/><br/>This is an assist-to-place dog and APA assumes no responsibility for it.<br/><br/>My husband and I are heart-broken about seeking a new home for our pet, but we have a newborn and we know that our chihuahua is not good around babies/children. <br/><br/>Ishie is 10 years old, a male, black chihuahua with white around his face. He weighs about 8 lbs. He mainly sleeps all day. He loves to cuddle in soft blankets or sit on a pillow. He does not like to sit on laps. He is very protective of his owner and is definitely a "one-woman" man. Even though he does not like to sit on laps he likes to follow me around all the time, even to the bathroom. He likes to be in whatever room I'm in. <br/><br/>He is a nipper. If he thinks that he is in danger of being picked up he will get afraid and nip. One thing I notice is that if you only pet him with one hand he is more calm because he knows that you can't pick him up with one hand. <br/><br/>He is good at the vet. He becomes "charmed" by the whole thing. He used to have to get a muzzle on at each vet visit but now his doctor doesn't use it and he hasn't been nipped. <br/><br/>He likes to play with his kibbles n' bits before he eats them. He likes to act like he can't get the kibbles n' bits. He also has a lot of toys but seems to only favor a couple at a time. He will nurse (?) on them sometimes when he is very relaxed. <br/><br/>He is paper potty trained. We reinforce this by giving him a little bit of a treat each time he goes potty. He also loves to pee and poop outside, but hasn't been trained to let us know when he wants to go because the indoor bathroom works pretty well for him. <br/><br/>If he stayed with us, he would have to be in a room with a gate and wouldn't be able to do much. We are looking for that special person or couple who have room in their hearts for him. He would need time and patience from you. It would take a while before he would trust you. Once he did, his love is unending. He loves to kiss (lick) faces. <br/><br/>He is currently on a medicine to calm him down. It might be good to continue that through a transition. He is not normally hyperactive by any means, he just doesn't want to be behind a gate when his owner is home. <br/><br/>He is healthy. The only "problem" he's had is that he had a short seizure after getting a rabies vaccine and then getting very happily excited to see someone. He only had that one seizure and fully recovered from it. <br/><br/> We would send him with everything he has. His blankets, toys, gates, pet taxi, food that we already have, heartguard medicine, vet records, muzzle, enyzme cleaner, a red velvet foot stool that he uses to jump up on things, and anything else we can think of. <br/><br/>If you could offer him a home or know of any resources for us, please send me an e-mail and we can arrange a time to talk on the phone so that you can ask all the questions you have and I can too.
