Meet Iris

Puppies don't come any sweeter than Iris!

Iris is a 3-month-old bundle of love who is an affectionate girl eager for attention. She loves belly rubs and will never turn down some playtime with her favorite people. She is a little shy, but once she gets comfortable, she's ready to take on the world! Iris currently weighs around 20lbs and likely will be 50-60lbs when fully grown.

Iris was born in foster care with her 8 sisters after her mom, Daffodil, was found as a pregnant stray. An owner never came forward, so the puppies were born in foster care and separated into foster homes as pairs when weaned. Iris was fostered with her sister, Violet, who has already been adopted. Iris's mom appears to be a rottweiler/
labrador
mix. We don't know who the dad is, but based on the puppies' looks, our best guess is he is a long-haired German Shepherd mix. Iris appears to be the runt of her litter.

Iris is a smart girl who has already learned to sit for her meals. She is looking for an active family who can provide her with lots of daily exercise and mental enrichment. She still needs to learn all of her basic manners, so her new family will need to be dedicated to continuing her training and socialization.

Due to her size, Bluebell would do best with a family that has large dog experience.

Iris currently lives in a foster home with both large and small dogs and seems like she would love another playful medium/large dog in her new home. Iris lives with cats in her foster home and could do well living with dog-savvy cats in her new home with a slow introduction and proper supervision. Iris lives with older kids and could be a wonderful addition to a family with kids 10 years and older.

Iris has been doing well with her housetraining using a dog door, but she is still learning and her new family will need to be consistent about her house training. She has done well being crated overnight and being left in a pen when home alone. She hasn't spent too much time by herself, so she would need a family who can slowly get her acclimated to being home alone.

Iris is such a special girl and is eager for her forever family. If you think that might just be you, submit an adoption application today!

Iris's adoption fee is $400.

The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes.

Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption.
