Iris's Story

From Kennel Life to Cuddle Life: Meet Iris

We can’t believe this precious girl hasn’t found her forever family yet!

Maybe it’s her age? At 7 years old, Iris is just hitting her stride — barely middle-aged for a small breed dog and full of life, love, and cuddles to give. Or maybe it’s her coat? Her hair was kept short and became stained during her breeder years, but it’s already growing softer, longer, and whiter each day. Her transformation is in full bloom!

Iris is a dainty 5.3-lb Maltese who spent her early life as a breeder dog without a family of her own. Now, she’s finally learning what it means to be adored — cozy beds, soft voices, gentle pets, and arms that hold her close.

She’s a bit shy at first, but once she trusts you, her little tail wags and her eyes sparkle with gratitude. Iris loves to be held and cuddled and soaks up every bit of kindness. She’s gentle, quiet, and not at all nippy — just a soft soul ready to bloom with love.

Because she has only a few teeth left, Iris enjoys soft meals and snacks (which she eats like a champ!).

Iris is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines, recent bloodwork and dental. She’s working on kennel and house training — she knows to potty outside when taken but still wears an adorable diaper indoors as she continues to learn. With patience and consistency, she’ll keep making progress.

She gets along wonderfully with other small dogs and would likely do well with cats or calm, gentle large dogs. Respectful children who know how to handle tiny pups would be just fine, too.

Iris has spent her life waiting to be someone’s baby — now she’s ready to move from kennel life to cuddle life and discover what forever love feels like.

Apply today to meet Iris at adoptapal.org/adopt adoption fee is $500.
