Iris's Story

Meet Iris!
Iris is a beautiful 3-year-old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix weighing approximately 55 lbs, and she is looking for a forever family who will love her as much as we do.
Iris is an energetic, joyful, incredibly loyal girl with a big personality. She is the kind of dog who wants to be involved in everything her humans are doing. Whether it’s going for a car ride, taking a long walk, playing fetch, lounging in the sunshine, or curling up next to you at bedtime, Iris simply wants to be where her people are.
She is also an excellent watchdog and naturally alert to her surroundings. She has all the qualities you could want in a loyal companion while still having a playful, goofy side that will keep you smiling.
Iris' Health
Iris is:
3 years old
Approximately 55 lbs
Spayed
Microchipped with a Fi Nano microchip
Heartworm negative
Up to date on vaccinations, last vaccinated in February 2026
On monthly Simparica Trio
Her Favorite Things
Iris absolutely LOVES car rides. As soon as she hears “ride,” she is ready to go! She happily sits in the backseat with her head nestled against the console just so she can be as close to her person as possible.
She loves:
Playing fetch
Running and exploring
Playing with sticks of absolutely every shape and size
Going on long walks
Spending time outside
Sunbathing
Cuddling with her humans
Sleeping next to her person
Being told she is a “good girl”
Iris can walk for miles and would make a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys an active lifestyle. She can occasionally pull on leash when she gets excited, but she does very well with her harness and understands that her person is in control.
Smart Girl!
Iris is potty trained, kennel trained, and knows several commands, including:
Sit • Lay Down • Kennel • Come • Inside • Go Outside • Walk Time • Ride • Potty • Kisses • Good Girl
She is very treat motivated and loves just about anything a dog can eat. Her favorite snacks include cheese, watermelon, and carrots that she can hold onto and nibble away at.
She currently eats Purina ONE True Instinct, with salmon being her favorite flavor.
Her Personality
Iris can be a little shy, skittish, and unsure when meeting someone new. She will need a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time. Once she feels comfortable with you, however, she becomes an incredibly affectionate and loving companion.
She loves to cuddle, nuzzle into your neck, give kisses, and stay close to her humans. She truly wants to be part of the family and be included in everyday life.
We frequently hear from people who have dog-sat Iris that she is the “best dog ever.” She really doesn't ask for much: she wants a person who loves her, gives her attention, and provides her with enough space and activity to keep her happy.
Iris & Other Animals
Iris has successfully met and played with dogs of different sizes. With a proper introduction and meet-and-greet, she can be very playful and enjoys running and playing with her canine friends.
However, Iris does have some important boundaries when it comes to high-value items such as bones and food. She does not typically resource guard from people, but she can become possessive around other dogs. For this reason, we recommend that she be fed separately from other pets and that high-value chews or bones only be given when she is separated from other dogs.
Because of this, we feel Iris may do best as the only dog in the home or with a younger, playful dog who is a good personality match. She has a confident, strong personality and enjoys being in charge, so proper introductions and compatibility will be important.
Iris has also been around a cat once. She was very curious, while the cat was not particularly interested in making friends! Because we do not have a cat in her current environment, we cannot say with certainty how she would do living with one. A home without cats may therefore be the safest match unless a careful introduction can be arranged.
Iris & Kids
Iris absolutely loves children she has met. She is playful, social, and always seems ready to make a new friend. She wants to play with everyone — dogs, kids, and adults alike!
Because she is energetic and enthusiastic, we would want any children in her future home to be comfortable around an active, 55-pound dog.
Her Dream Home
Iris would thrive with an active family who will give her plenty of exercise, attention, structure, and affection.
Her ideal home would have a large, securely fenced yard or another safe, spacious area where she can run, play, explore, sunbathe, and simply enjoy being a dog.
Most importantly, Iris needs someone who will be patient with her while she settles in and earns her trust. In return, you will have an incredibly loyal, affectionate, playful companion who wants nothing more than to be loved and included.
Iris has spent the last three years growing into the amazing dog she is today. Now, we want to find the family who will give her the space, stability, patience, and unconditional love she deserves for the rest of her life.
If you think Iris could be your girl, we would love for you to apply to meet her
