Iggy's Story

Meet Iggy!

To be considered as Iggy's forever family:
You MUST submit an adoption application prior to being considered , see instructions at the bottom of this profile. Introducing yourself is not an application

This handsome 4yr old neutered male Labrador Retriever is ready to find his own forever family for adventures and cuddles to be shared.

Iggy weighs 95lbs (not at all overweight, he is just a big strong boy) and is not suitable for families with small children due to his excited hopping which we are working on, that would knock down small children

He is not good with cats according to his previous owner and we will not risk a cat's safety, so he is seeking a cat free home.

Iggy adores all humans, does not resource guard and is friendly to be handled, though very squirmy at times.

He is great with other dogs of all sizes that he has met, and spent lots of time socializing with dogs in his previous home.

Iggy also has a strong prey drive towards squirrels and other small animals. He will bark at and chase squirrels when in the yard, and will pull towards squirrels when on walks, however is pretty easily redirected.

Iggy is fully housetrained but not crate trained. He is not destructive and does not need to be crated in a dog proofed home. He is a very good boy, as long as you do not leave him alone with stuffy toys that he will destroy and may ingest. He plays well with supervision and loves his toys and treat puzzles.

Iggy's leash skills are improving every day! For the most part, Iggy has been loose leash walking. Iggy will still pull (very hard) when he sees or smells something very interesting, so this is still something we're working on. We have been using a Canny Collar on his walks to help while we continue to work on his training.

Iggy is a very loving, playful, smart boy. He has been the perfect houseguest according to his foster family, with no separation anxiety or destructive tendencies.

Despite his extreme love of food, he has not shown any desire to counter surf or dig through cupboards. He has not had any accidents since he's arrived into our care.

Once Iggy has gotten his share of exercise he can be very content, and is the perfect work from home companion.
He is happy to nap underneath a desk between breaks. When not napping, Iggy loves to play and he loves his toys - some strong sturdy toys are a must for his new home!

Iggy is very loving, and displays this through his kisses. Iggy likes to be near his people - he's happy to go outside or on adventures, as long as you're there with him! Iggy has shown some desire to snuggle, but he mainly just likes to be in the same room as you. This means he likes to lay on your bed or your couch, but he won't necessarily be right there beside you.

Iggy will get very excited when playing, and becomes almost puppy like. He will jump up onto his people when excited-being taught the OFF command-, and will sometimes snatch toys right out of your hands which has improved when playing fetch by getting Iggy to sit before throwing the toy to ensure you don't get toppled over.

Iggy sits very patiently for his food and will wait until it's in his raised feeder before going to eat it.

Iggy loves his belly rubs and loves to be brushed (which is great because he is definitely a shedder!).

Iggy is thankfully very food motivated which will help with his ongoing training. His new family will be required to attend positive method training classes as part of his contract in order to help him become the best boy that we know he can be.

Iggy has had corrective eye surgery to repair his entropion eye lids (inverted eye lashes) and has some residual blepharitis inflammation which is being treated with a unique protein elimination diet to ensure that it isn't an allergy vs just residual from his eye surgery. This does not bother him at all, he is a happy healthy handsome boy

Notes:
*Pools and ponds must be separately fenced from yard
*Owned or rented homes welcome with landlord's permission
*Iggy would love to have a yard to play in, but would also be suitable for homes that are dedicated to outdoor adventures and exercise.

Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario.
For approved families, we require in person meetings in St Jacobs ON after your application has been approved.
If you are not willing to drive to this location to meet our dogs if you are approved, please do not apply. We do not meet elsewhere nor deliver dogs.

If you are interested in applying to adopt a dog from Hobo Haven Rescue, please use this link to submit an application https://hobohavenrescue.ca/dog-adoption-application

Iggy's adoption fee is $600
Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal testing, dental, deworming if needed, Heartworm and Tick disease testing, bloodwork, Advantage prevention, and all medical treatments and surgeries required during their time with us.

For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:

We require all serious applicants to watched "Petfooled" which is a free documentary at this link https://tubitv.com/movies/494913/pet-fooled
Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational.

An adoption application must be completed and approved, as well as a virtual home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs. All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.

We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. All dogs are in private foster family homes, not a facility.

Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com

Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.

Emails are best, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.
