ICE (cc#7147)'s Story

We named him ICE for his beautiful coloring. This white Husky (or maybe Husky/Shepherd mix) came in as a stray. He was held, not available for adoption, a little longer than usual because such a beautiful dog must have an owner. Everyone thought, maybe they're away on vacation and don't know "ICE" is missing yet. No one called. No one came. Now animal control said they need to find him a new home.... The animal control officers say: "He's a little aloof, but a good dog. He walks well on a leash and loves to be outside on a walk. And they haven't decided if he doesn't know "sit" or if he just doesn't want to." They say he seems housebroken, which is definitely a plus. One of our dog walkers wrote: Ice is a really sweet boy. He loves to have his head stroked, walks well on a leash, takes treats gently, and was even OK with a brief bath outside......

Checking his teeth, we were thinking ICE is about 3 years old, but after giving him his Rabies Vaccination, the town vet wrote on his the Rabies Certificate that ICE was a bit older, maybe as old as 7. (We'll get a 3rd opinion when ICE goes to the vet to be neutered.)

UPDATE: ICE has gone to our vet, who thinks ICE may be 5-7 years old. He weighed in at 64.8 lbs. They tested him for Heartworm & Lyme Disease - all negative, and his Fecal/Giardia tests were also negative. He was given his Distemper and Bordetella Vaccinations, and he was neutered. Now he's back at the shelter ready and waiting for that special family to come along and whisk him away to a new, happy, loving home.

Since ICE is a larger dog that came in as a stray, we always suggest an experienced dog owner would be best.

If you have any questions, would like more information or if you are considering adoption, you can speak with an animal control officer through the West Orange Health Department at 973-325-4120. Best yet, stop by and take a look. The Township's Animal Control Facility (commonly called The Animal Shelter) is located at 311 Watchung Avenue, West Orange; and is open Monday through Friday 4:30 - 5:30 (Occasionally additional hours can be made by appointment.)

…….
