Hunter's Story

Truly Awesome Pup✨ Hunter is a 3-year-old, ~50 lb sweetheart (and could happily gain another 5–10 lbs) who is fully vetted and neutered — and fully ready for his forever home. He's so sweet and calm and past the hyper puppy energy which will make him a delight to live with.

This boy has the perfect personality balance. He’s not shy, but he’s also not in-your-face. He gets along well with other dogs, but if given the choice, he’d much rather be right by your side. Hunter is the kind of dog who just wants to be close to his people, soaking up love and giving it right back. Absolutely everyone who meets him falls in in love....and as you can see in his photos....he loves kiddos!

💛 Why we love Hunter:
* Total love bug — sweet, affectionate, and gentle
* Gives the best hugs and kisses
* Loves belly rubs more than just about anything
* Great with everyone he meets; loves kids
* Rockstar at the vet and calm in the car 🚗

If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a soft heart and an easygoing vibe, Hunter is your guy. He truly is one of the best dogs we've rescued in a long time. He's healthy, up to date on his vaccinations and fully house trained. He's a perfect boy! Long Road Home's Adoption Policy
Where do we get our dogs? Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes. What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program? All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
