Humphrey's Story

13 yr old Humphrey came to the Sanctuary after being rescued from a county shelter. He is a gentle soul with a heart of gold. Humphrey has settled in nicely. Despite his nervous disposition, Humphrey's endearing qualities shine through, from his soulful eyes to his tender demeanor. As we work to help Humphrey feel more at ease, we're confident that with the right environment and a patient, understanding family, he'll blossom into the loving companion he's meant to be.

Humphrey has settled in well with his foster family. He puts up with
our exuberant 2 year old Golden Retriever's attempts to get him to
play with good humor. He's spry for his age, stairs and the jump onto
the couch are no problem, and he bucks with excitement when we get
ready for his walks. When he first arrived he would get tired within
a couple of blocks of the house, but now he walks for more than a mile
and gets compliments on his trim physique. He's good at mealtime
eating around other dogs, and has learned to wait in a sit while his
bowl is put down for the verbal "okay" to start eating. We're working
with him to take treats with a softer mouth. Between meals and walks
he likes to relax on the couch, and he'll snuggle up tight against
anyone seated with him. He can still occasionally be unsure how to
behave, probably because of his shelter experiences, but he is a
sweet, happy boy who is trying hard to be a good family member.

If you're able to offer Humphrey the patience and support he needs, fill out the application below to set up an appointment and schedule to come meet this sweet boy!

To schedule an appointment to meet Humphrey, kindly fill out an application below:

https://www.seniordogsanctuary.com/adoption-application.html

Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland's Adoption Policy
Why adopt a Senior Dog? Experienced, housebroken, settled down, loving and lovable, good with children, excellent company, non-judgemental - we could go on but you get the picture. Exceptions to everything listed? Sure, but all in all an experience you will never regret. First, come visit the dogs that interest you; we are open, by appointment, every day of the week from 10-3. Then complete our Adoption Application, which asks for personal references, your animals' Vet, information about your home environment and your agreement to allow us to do a home visit. Once approved, we will do a meet and greet with your family - including your four-legged family members. If all goes well, you welcome your pup into your home and your heart and you all become members of our extended Senior Dog Sanctuary family!
