Hugh's Story
Worried about your feet getting cold this winter? Looking for a pup with an adorable way to clue you in on his desires? We may have a solution to both! Hugh (an approximately 13 year old shih tzu mix) is a very easy guy to have around. Hugh has very few demands, but he’ll let you know when you fail to meet them with a series of sweetly disapproving “harumph”s. His list of demands as we’ve learned them: a dog bed with a blanket that you will rearrange once per day. Dry dog food only. At LEAST two cuddles a day. Trips outside and in but, if you have stairs, must be carried up them (he’s not great at climbing for good reason). None of that is too much to ask, in our opinion!

Hugh is deaf, or mostly deaf, and has some limited vision due to scars from untreated dry eye. He has no prey drive, and seems to like being around other animals, but again, he’s an old man so doesn’t appreciate exuberant behavior.

Hugh was found stray and in pretty rough shape. He had so many fleas, he was anemic. Hugh had multiple grass seeds imbedded deep in his skin. He was suffering from a terrible skin and ear infection. And to top it off, Hugh had a large cancerous tumor on his back.

Hugh has come a long way since he’s been with us! The tumor has been removed (he is now cancer free) and he’s healing from that incision. He had several infected teeth removed. We treated his infections and his hair is growing back. And we’ve addressed his dry eye.

Hugh will need eye medicine daily to keep his eyes moist He also has weakness in his back legs, so he would prefer a yard, rather than walks. He has had full blood work, is heart worm negative, is dewormed and current on his flea and heartworm treatment. Potty trained and vaccinated, he is polite in the house. His foster mom says he’s as easy as a houseplant!

Does Hugh sound like the guy for you? Apply to adopt at www.stumptownstrays.org
