Howl's Story
Meet Howl!

Some dogs come into rescue needing a home. Others come carrying the weight of everything they've been through. Howl is one of those dogs.
Howl came to Mac's Mission from a difficult situation where he witnessed some of his canine companions disappear under tragic circumstances. Because of his past, the world can still feel like a scary place. Humans are especially intimidating to him, and he isn't quite ready to be everyone's best friend just yet.
The good news? Howl recently completed 10 weeks of training through the Puppies for Parole program! He's made progress, but his new family will need to continue building his confidence at his pace.
Howl can exhibit extreme submissive urination when frightened and prefers to observe new situations from a safe distance. He needs an adopter who understands that trust isn't built overnight and who can give him patience, consistency, and realistic expectations.
A confident companion dog is a MUST for Howl. Other dogs are where this boy truly shines. He absolutely loves canine friends and finds comfort in following their lead. Give him a dog willing to share a bed or nap spot, and Howl is one happy little guy.
He isn't food aggressive, but he does prefer to enjoy his meals without sharing. He gives appropriate warnings and boundaries around his food, while happily accepting treats alongside his canine friends.
And then there's Howl's mischievous side... This clever little guy is basically a four-legged Houdini and has been known to scale baby gates when he decides he has somewhere else to be. His future family will need to be prepared for creative escape attempts!
House training is still a work in progress. Although he has regular access to the outdoors, Howl occasionally chooses a potty pad, so his family will need to continue working with him.
Male | 9 months
White | Chihuahua
Completed 10 weeks of Puppies for Parole training
Confident companion dog required
Thrives with other dogs
Very fearful of people
Submissive urination when frightened
Needs space during meals
Professional-level escape artist
House training still in progress
Howl doesn't need someone who expects him to instantly become a social butterfly. He needs someone willing to sit beside him, earn his trust, let his confidence grow, and show him that life can finally be safe.
For the right person-and with the right canine companion-Howl has the potential to blossom into something truly special.
Apply to adopt: macsmission.org/adopt
