Howie

Howie is a handsome 50 lb mixed breed who loves to please his humans. He was brought in as a stray after having wandered onto a farm. He was there for around 8 months while they searched for a place to bring him. <br/><br/>Howie was rapidly adopted shortly after his intake, but after about a month in his home, he was tearfully returned. Although he gets along with most dogs, he and the resident dog were unable to coexist in a way that was comfortable for the adopter. However, he recieved a glowing review of his time there. <br/><br/>In the adopter's own words, "Howie is the perfect best friend. He is cuddly and his face melts when you pet him. We have not heard a bark out of him yet, so quiet and eager to please. I taught him on [our] first day to sit and wait till I set his food down then greenlight him to eat. He is absolutely smart as a whip, extremely intelligent and much smarter than most dogs! <br/><br/>"He sleeps in his crate in my bedroom every night and walks right into his crate with one little treat and makes not a peep until you're ready to get up. He is house trained and loves to lay in the sun on the deck when he's not laying at your feet if you direct him or on the couch or dog bed if you let him. <br/><br/>"He loves for you to throw his Kong ball and bring it back to you, but when you tell him to lay down he is calm immediately and ready to relax with you. He follows me wherever I go and is the most loving thing. If we did not already have our beautiful wired hair baby girl...Howie would've been with us forever! I've become so attached to him and pray that he finds a best friend. He also has a very short coat almost like a horse hide and does not shed!! As well he loves everybody he meets including the postman. You will not regret choosing Howie for an amazing companion."<br/><br/>We do know that Howie likes to chase chickens and cats, so a home without either is reccomended. However, he is a friend to other dogs and to humans, of course. He's playful and loving, and with his cute pricked ears, compelling golden eyes, and crooked tail we are hoping he can find his next placement quickly!
