Howard (JN25-366)'s Story
######

HIGHLIGHT:
- Requires another confident dog already established in the home

Meet Howard - quiet, watchful, and learning to trust

Howard is a 10.5-pound Miniature Schnauzer who is still very early in his journey toward feeling safe in a human world. He's a deeply nervous little guy who prefers to keep his distance, quietly observing everything from afar. Though he's not ready to approach people just yet, he watches closely-and those watchful eyes are full of curiosity.

At this stage, Howard is learning that people bring good things, like tossed treats and gentle, predictable routines. He's also beginning to tolerate being picked up with a towel-an important first step in helping him feel more comfortable with gentle handling. He remains very cautious, but there's potential for progress in the right environment.

Howard requires another confident dog already established in the home to help him feel safe and provide guidance as he slowly navigates this new life. He'll do best in a calm, experienced household where he can take his time and be allowed to observe and settle at his own pace.

He's not ready for physical affection, but he is ready for someone who understands that trust takes time-and who will be there patiently, quietly cheering him on with every small step forward.

------
Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog's individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!
