Howard's Story
Well, hello there! My name is Howard!

I am a medium-sized lab mix that was found in Stephen’s State Forest with my pack, trying our best to survive in the wild. I am around 42 pounds at full growth, so I am just the right size for laps. When we were found, the people at AHeinz57 caught me, brought me to the shelter, and had people to take their time to help me and love me. Now, I have learned so much since arriving here!

After consistency and patience, I now enjoy getting pets and brushed by the people I trust. I have learned to take treats nicely from the volunteers and do a great job not making any messes in my kennel! I have become brave enough, with the help of my best buddies, to go on walks outside of the shelter, as long as I get time to investigate! I even have new nicknames that I go by such as "Howie" or "How How", and because of my friends here at the shelter, I never knew how good an ear scratch was until I got one for the first time, and let me tell you, it was the best feeling in the world! The volunteers have been so excited at my progress, and they love watching me learn to love them back!

Now for the home I am looking for! Because of my background, I will need a fenced yard, so apartments and townhomes will not be the best fit. New things can still be scary to me and a fence will help keep me safe and feel the most protected. Quick movements and loud noises can also make me feel pretty nervous, so children living in the home or frequently visiting would not be the best fit for me. I have learned to play with other dogs, as well as my pack mates (Delores), but I will still need proper introductions with other dogs to make sure it's the right fit. Please remember that I have only known the forest and shelter life, so sharing an inside space with another dog may be difficult at first, but with some guidance and consistency, I could learn to do well.

My best buddy, and friends at the shelter, have hopes of me finding a home where I can enjoy the good life and just sit and contemplate the world with people that I love, because most of my other forest friends have been adopted and have done wonderful in these types of homes! I dream that one day I will get my chance too. If you are willing to come and take a chance on me, as other adopters have done with dogs from my pack, I promise I will be worth the time and patience it takes to meet with me! Until then, I will wait for you to come to meet me. If you would like to make me a part of your family forever, please fill out an adoption application.
Love,
Howard

Some information may change overtime, as we get to know them better.
