Horace in Maine - Special Needs, Adult's Story
Meet Horace! In Maine! Young, but special needs!

Age: 4 yrs 2 months
Weight: 71 lbs
Breed: mix

We're crossposting Horace for our friends at Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland. You can reach out to us or directly to ARL with interest.

*Thanks to a generous ARLGP volunteer, Horace's ARLGP adoption fee is sponsored!*

ABOUT HORACE:
Horace is a resilient, big-hearted survivor who's ready to turn the page and start the best chapter of his life. He's been through more than many dogs ever will. He's faced challenges, beaten cancer, and come out the other side with a spirit that's nothing short of inspiring. Instead of letting his past define him, Horace greets each day with optimism, curiosity, and a tail-wagging enthusiasm for whatever comes next. He's living proof that second chances can be extraordinary.

This handsome tri-pawed boy doesn't let anything slow him down. Missing a leg? Just a small footnote in his story. He loves exploring the outdoors, soaking up new smells, and would make an incredible adventure buddy. Horace is also impressively smart-he knows sit, down, stay, and come, and he's continuing to polish his leash skills. Whether it's a walk with a long lead, a car ride with the wind in his fur, or the promise of a pup cup, he's all in.

At home, Horace's playful, goofy side shines. He absolutely loves toys-tossing them, carrying them proudly, and keeping himself entertained in ways that will make you laugh daily. But beneath the fun is a deeply loyal dog who bonds closely with his people. He loves giving kisses and being near you (even if he occasionally forgets he's a bit bigger than your average lap dog).

Horace has worked hard to build his confidence and is blossoming more every day. What he needs now is someone who sees him for who he is-not just where he's been. His ideal adopter will offer patience, compassion, and a true commitment to giving him the soft place to land he's earned. Someone who understands that love, consistency, and kindness mean everything to a dog who's fought so hard for his second chance.

He would do best as the only pet in the home and would prefer a calm environment without cats. Older, dog-savvy kids who can respect his space could be a good match.

At the end of the day, Horace isn't asking for much. After everything he's overcome, all he really wants is to be safe, to be understood, and most of all-to be loved.

If you believe in fresh starts, in resilience, and in the kind of bond that only comes from weathering life's storms, Horace is ready to meet you.

If you're interested in Horace, reach out to the shelter directly at https://arlgp.org/ today!!
