Honey's Story

Honey is an 8 year old Cattle Dog/Heeler mix that weighs 43 pounds and has been with us since September of 2025. She was originally adopted out in 2020 but was then surrendered to McKamey Animal Shelter. She had been passed around from home to home after her orginal owner died so we were grateful to get her back with us.

Honey LOVES playing with her toys, especially her squeaky toys. She will play fetch all day long, if you let her. Honey is a great leash walker and enjoys going on walks, hikes, or sniffing strolls. She also has great recall! Honey loves getting pets and scratches. Sometimes, when you find the “good” spot, she will even purr!

Honey prefers to be the queen of her pack and can be selective on who she lets in her friend group. However, she does great being an “office dog” where she gets to hang out with 4 other female dogs!

For Honey, being 8 years old also comes with arthritis. She has her good days and bad days when it comes to pain in her hips, but does well taking a daily joint supplement and Gabapentin. She will let you know if she needs a rest day but most of the time she is ready for walks and play.

Honey would love to spend her best years in a loving home.

Honey gets to go to Petco often with our volunteers as she is such a good greeter with the public. She absolutley loves her squeaker toy that we call the “watermelon“ and will play fetch with it. She always plays hard to get when you try to get it back from her, but she’s absolutely thrilled when you do and can throw it again. She also loves balls and stuffie toys...anything you can throw and that she can chew:)

She has even been on Local 3 Plus You.
