Honey's Story

Honey is an amazing dog who deserves a very special home.

Honey came to Cameron Animal Rescue from a local inner city shelter after being found as a stray. She is smart, energetic, opinionated, and loves to play. She has lots of love to give, and tons of trouble to get into.

Honey is a Husky mix, and is characteristic of her breed. She is very high energy - she will make an amazing jogging or hiking partner. She easily goes for 5-10 mile walks each day, and still has energy left over. She loves to play fetch and chase balls. She needs a family with a similar energy level who will ensure she gets the exercise that she needs. She needs a fenced-in back yard, ideally with an 8 ft. fence, because she can easily jump anything smaller. Honey is incredibly smart, but can also be stubborn. She knows many tricks, including sit, shake, lay down, and stay. She walks well on leash, but can be quite strong, especially when she first starts out, before she's gotten some energy out. Honey loves to play with everything she encounters on walks, including water bottles, pinecones, leaves, and has an uncanny ability to find abandoned balls. She also has a very high prey drive, and will try to chase squirrels, rabbits, birds, and other small animals. But she is very respectful of deer and other larger animals.

Honey loves people, and usually is wonderful with anyone and everyone she meets, although she can occasionally be very nervous. We don't know anything about Honey's past, but her fear at sudden movements towards her, and at handling around her neck by anyone she does not know well, and her utter panic at getting her leash or anything tangled around her legs, are suggestive of significant abuse. She has made huge progress with staff members at the rescue, but is especially fearful of handling around her head and neck by new people. She needs a family who understands those fears, and will be patient and understanding as they earn her trust. Because Honey can have fearful moments with some handling, a home without small children is recommended. When she is comfortable, Honey is incredibly affectionate. She loves being pet, and enjoys cuddling up to you for hugs and attention. She loves being near people whenever she can.

Honey is very interested in meeting other dogs, but can be anxious at first. She does well with calm dogs of all sizes and breeds who do not react to her nervousness. She is fearful of more excited dogs, dogs who try to wrestle as they play, or dogs who react to her anxiety. With slow introductions she would thrive in a home with a calm dog who would serve as a role model and playmate for her. Unfortunately Honey's prey drive extends to cats, and she must have a home without them.

Honey is a healthy 3 year old girl. Her adoption includes - her complete series of DHLPPi (distemper), Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; fecal testing and deworming; heartworm and flea/tick preventive for 1 month; spay; microchip; 30 days of free insurance. She is fully house-trained.

Honey has been through more than we can imagine, and she deserves a permanent, loving home of her own with a family who loves her. We understand that we are looking for a very special home, with the experience, patience, and energy level to give Honey what she needs, but we are convinced that the perfect family is out there somewhere. Can that be you? Email CAHadoptions@gmail.com for more information.
