Homer's Story

This incredibly sweet boy is such a joy to spend time with. And honestly? Homer is hilarious because he has two completely different personalities depending on the situation 🤣
Put him in a fenced yard, he’s calm, relaxed, and happy to just exist beside you. He loves laying in the sun, taking naps, watching whatever you’re doing, and simply hanging out. He’s the kind of dog that would happily supervise yard work while soaking up sunshine ☀️
But the SECOND you clip on that leash? Homer suddenly believes he has entered the Olympics and absolutely MUST win the gold medal in speed walking 🤦‍♀️🤣 This boy pulls like he’s training for a championship race, so he definitely needs some leash manners and someone willing to work with him.
We rescued Homer from the Petersburg Animal Shelter a couple months ago after he had spent @a YEAR there. The environment was very stressful for him, and we wanted to give him another chance in a calmer setting.
And honestly, the difference in him has been amazing ❤️ Since coming here, Homer has relaxed tremendously. He’s calmer, happier, and truly enjoys his outside time now. He’s become such a chill companion when he’s able to relax and just be himself.
He enjoys the occasional game of tug-of-war, keeps a very clean kennel, and we truly believe he’ll make a wonderful inside dog because once he settles in, he’s incredibly calm and affectionate.
A few important things about Homer:
🐾 Around 3 years old
🐾 Neutered
🐾 Up to date on rabies vaccine
🐾 Must be the ONLY dog in the home
He’s waited long enough. Let’s see if we can finally find Homer the forever home he deserves ❤️

If you are interested in adopting a pet from our shelter, the process begins with a visit to our shelter to meet the pet of your interest. After meeting the pet, if you decide that the pet is a good match for you and your family, you must then fill out an adoption application. The application must be filled out entirely. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Once you have completed and submitted your application, the application screening process usually takes 2-3 days to complete. Please note that we take multiple applications per pet. Each application is reviewed and the validity of all of the information listed by the applicant is verified. Our goal is place each pet with a forever home that best suits that particular pets needs, therefore we do not do first come first serve adoptions. If your application is the one chosen to adopt the pet, we will contact you and set up a time for you to come in and finalize the paperwork, pay the adoption fee, and pick up your new pet. There is no fee to fill out the adoption application. The fees for adoption are as follows: Female Dogs/Puppies - To be determined Male Dogs/Puppies - To be determined Female Cats/Kittens - To be determined Male Cats/Kittens - To be determined These fees cover the cost of having the pet spayed or neutered.
