Holly's Story
Meet Holly Our Sweet Baby Hippo!

Holly is a 60-pound cuddle bug in a tiny, low-rider package, more baby hippo than dog! She's got a big smushy head and even bigger ears, the perfect recipe to melt your heart.

She's a happy little soul who's starting to believe the world might be safe and full of good snacks. Loud unfamiliar noises and new environments can sometimes make her feel nervous. She needs a patient family who will move slowly, give her space when she needs it, and help her build trust at her own pace. With gentle handling and lots of reassurance, Holly is already becoming the silly, snuggly and playful dog she wants to be and is now waiting for her forever family where she can continue to thrive.

At about 2 years old, Holly is as gentle as they come. Whether it's taking a treat or playing tug, she knows her stength and is very careful with it.

While she can pull on the leash, she's shown no reactivity toward other dogs or the busy nyc streets. She is still polishing up on her leash manners mostly because she's so thrilled to be out exploring. But with positive reinforcement, she's already learning to walk by our side.

While new challenges like big stairs can sometimes be scary, Holly hasn't met a person she doesn't instantly adore. She's a pro sleeper, pro cuddler, and gives the sweetest kisses. She's doing great with a consistent potty schedule and showing us she's figured out house life fast.

Holly came to the ACC as a scared stray and then spent weeks in a tiny pop-up crate. Now that she's safe and decompressed, she's learnt that her crate is a cozy, safe place, not a scary one she's stuck in and is happy to snooze there while we're out.

We're not sure if Holly has had doggie siblings before, but with a slow introduction she's done great with her four legged foster cousin in the suburbs! She's a sweet, affectionate girl who gets very excited when meeting new friends both two- and four-legged!

She knows her basic commands like "sit", "paw" and "wait" but she's such a smart girl we're sure she'll learn anything you want to teach her.

Like any true new yorker, she's an avid subway goer and has been the star of the show at every patio happy hour!

We've also discovered that she absolutely loves bath time. She sits so patiently, soaking up all the scrubs and affection like a little spa queen.

Friends of Holly say she's the "cutest, sweetest, happiest and wiggliest little hippo you will ever meet!"

We're already totally in love with her and we think you will be too. Come meet Holly and we promise you wont want to leave without her!
