Hobbs's Story

Life is so exciting!

Hi! I'm Hobbs. I love to run and play. If I get overly excited, "calm" helps me. I've learned that one pretty well. I like to be close, napping next to your chair, sometimes on your feet. I have found the couch is a nice place for a nap too. I didn't used to feel comfortable on furniture. Movie nights changed that. Plus I can see out the window from the couch, which I love. I'd do best in a home with older children.

General Socialization Notes:
I am super smart. Very sensitive too. I learn quickly and am eager to please. I don't need to be kenneled. I won't chew your shoes. If I'm really stressed, I might chew up some of my toys. I'll bring you any squeakers I pull out in exchange for a treat. I like to be reassured that I'm okay, a good boy, and that you love me. I'm really not good on leash yet, but getting better. I've been practicing in a big area without distractions to improve my focus. I'm not ready to walk around other dogs, people or especially rabbits yet. I need to keep working on that. I get overly excited in the car and kind of loud at first. I settle down pretty quickly with reassurance. We have learned that I get anxious and don't listen well when I'm hungry. If I seem like I'm stressed about nothing, it's probably an empty tummy.

Does Hobbs like other animals?
I've been living with 2 older dogs about my size. I love to play with them. I can be too playful sometimes, since they're older, but I'm getting much better at listening to them. Small dogs might not be good because I guess I play a bit rough. No cats please.

Does Hobbs like children?
I think I would love children who are not too little. Maybe teenagers or near teens. Someone to play with me. I live with a disabled young man and I have learned how to be very careful and gentle with him. I even let mom know when he needs her.

Favorite Toys:
I like a variety of toys. A tug toy, something I can shake if you're not in a tug mood. Stuffed toys don't last long. Squeaker balls are my favorite. I'll put them right in your lap so you can toss them across the room for me. That's my favorite game. I love to leap up and catch them. I'm really very good at it. If the other dogs want to play too, I have even learned to take turns.

Ideal Forever Home:
My ideal forever home is one with a pretty big yard and some indoor floor space to play too. I'd love a dog around my size and age who will play with me. I would also be fine as your only dog. I do like getting all of the attention. A 6 foot privacy fence is a must. My foster mom's yard is in the back, away from people and dogs walking by. That's really perfect for me. Nothing too close to protect you from. Oh... I am protective and will tell you if there are intruders about. I've learned which noises are not a concern and which ones need my attention. Delivery trucks are very suspicious. They need to be watched very closely. If they stop close by, I will let you know. If you're looking for a best friend who is smart, sweet, loyal, and playful, I'm your guy!
